I am curious as to what your favorite production company is right now? Why?

I have a few favorites but the one that has really made it to the top of my list is Camillus. They manufacture just about any type of knife you could want - pocketknives, lockblades, eletrician's knives, linoleum knives, knives for the armed forces, kitchen knives, fillet knives, and others. Will Fennell probably single-handedly modernized the company by pushing them to collaborate with makers like Terzuola, Ralph, and Simonich for various pieces in their CUDA line up. Camillus was the first to offer a Talonite® fixed blade. And the second production company to work with Talonite® in a folder. The Becker Knife & Tool knives are my favorite hard-use fixed blades. Although i do not have personal experience to back this up, I have heard from other sources that the Beckers Camillus is doing now are better in quality than the ones made by BlackJack. And now the OVB Jerry Fisk traditional Bowie is waiting in the wings. Camillus has been around since 1876, and their willingness to work with and learn from some of the best knifemakers around today shows that they have extreme dedication to putting out some of the best knives on the market.

I agree re: Camillus. The EDC is a fantastic knife made even better by the price. My father just received one of their small celluloid handled lockbacks from AG Russell and I was very impressed by that also.

William Henry continues to impress me as well.

I'll second Camillus.
The collaborations are great-I jumped on the 154CM Talon and D2 ArcLite+I love the BK&T's.
They have as complete a lineup as I've seen, and make great knives at reasonable prices. Hard to beat Camillus.

No question in my mind.

Spyderco.

They are not as quick as other companies....

But, when they do something, wow.

Add to that, their very high value.

My favorite, hands down.

I'd have to go with Spyderco.I think Camillus is a quality company. Benchmade's 710 is one of the best knives out there (and the 690 is droolworthy) but for hands-down uaeability, I go for my Endura or Delica.

REKAT. Eventho' their QC sometimes isn't as consistant as it could be, and perhaps their communicaton skills suck (no web-site, no more REKAT Forum here, etc.), I STILL like the REKAT folders above the others for their strength, design, and materials.:).

Benchmade and Chris Reeve Knives...

Chris Reeve Knives goes above and beyond in maintaining a level of quality that most production companies struggle to attain, and one that gives some custom makers a lesson in precision.

Benchmade Knives is now more than ever putting direct customer input into action, releasing more new knives and welcomed variations of existing models than you can shake a stick at.

Professor.

I say Benchmade & Microtech

Benchmade:

Durable, Quality, selection, New models, innovative locks and collaborations, prices.

Microtech:

Solid quality knives; Example LCC Lightfoot. Very selective about Collaborations.

I'd have to say. . . CRK, Microtech and Kershaw.

Excellent QA, superb blade steel, and wicked sharp knives !

:D

edit: to add "big grin"

For me, rating a production company encompasses both the quality of their product and the value ratio. With that said, I really don't think you can beat an Endura or Delica. To me, my knives are tools first and foremost - not toys and not museum pieces. My Endura is rugged enough that it'll NEVER be considered a "toy," and affordable (i.e. "beatable") enough that it'll never make it into any museum.

Camillus. They have been excellent in the last 2 years or so. They have shown a great deal of innovation and really seem to be interested in producing what the consumers want to buy, rather than producing what interests management and then trying to sell that to consumers.
I would also like to add that all of this is due in large part to the good offices of Will Fennell. His participation in these forums has been a blessing both to Camillus' bottom line, and to knife buyers.

There seems to be a strong preference for folders in the replies so far. I prefer fixed blade knives, and I would have to say Cold Steel is my favorite production company for fixed blades. I have bought more of their fixed blade knives than any other brand, due to the large variety, reasonable prices, and use of a good carbon steel.
