What is your favorite scales/handle material?

i use exotic hardwoods, my favorites being snakewood, ironwood, pink ivory, macassar ebony, and cocobolo. rosewood also looks fantastic. i also like, but seldomely use buffalo horn with white streaks. these are definetly not inconsistant, and will deiffinetly last more than one lifetime. the reason these get a bad rep, is from the guys who don't use a liquid finish. i use teak oil, it hardens in the wood and brings out the grain. it was made for exotics, and makes them last alot longer then just buffing. i like black paper micarta, it looks fantastic with a fine steel wool finish, and nickle silver rivets. i just finished a sleak looking skinner, with it on there.

call me old fashioned, but I like the natural materials far more than any man made.
(BTW, the desert ironwood camp set on the madpoet page is mine- all mine.)
I like ivory, stag, bone, exotic wood, pearl (any flavor)
micarta is OK on a utility piece but it doesn't have the 'soul' that is inherent in the natural materials.

Chefget,
Wow, just visited your knife pages, what a wonderful collection. Of all the great pieces, the one I'd like to ask you about is the, Russell Damascus. Does the quality of the knife compare to the others in your collection? I'm a big fan of A.G.Russell, and I saw one of his One-handers, with stag scales, in one of his catalogs. I fell in love with the picture, but I've had no opportunity to handle the knife, or to compare it other knives. How, would you say it compares?

Titanium and aluminum, i think these give the knife an overall stronger and sturdier feel.
