What is your favorite slipjoint/lockback traditional with 01, D2 or S30V under $100?

Been wanting a good lockback or slipjoint traditional for awhile now and have been looking at the Queen lockback's with D2 the most. But am wondering what your favorite <$100 lockback or slipjoint with either 01,D2, or S30V would be? Or what are your favorites of both types lockback and slipjoint with the steels mentioned would be? Please show pics. Thanks.

Buck makes an S30V version of both the 110 and the 501 lockback knives. You buy them from their online custom shop.

I am not aware of any production slipjoints in S30V. I don't remember seeing any custom slipjoint makers working in S30V. There are some using CPM 154, the Powder Metallurgy version of 154CM.

In D2, I'm partial to Queen, though I understand that Canal Street also does a good job with D2. If you go with Queen, then I think which model you choose is probably a personal choice based on which pattern speaks to you most.

.

Al Warren does a great job with s30v. His fit and finish right up there as well.
Re the production side of things Queen D2 is great, my edc is a queen no. 2 and has just about the perfect balance of price, stain resistance and edge holding.

I'm a big fan of the GEC #71 Bullnose too. The Queen Mountain Man (D2) is a good value in a large locking folder.

Did you get this Mountainman off the exchange? I think you beat me to this one when debating on to get it or not like a fool. Fairly sure that was you. Got it for a steal i believe cause there was small defect? Really like this one.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Well think I'm getting a Queen or Buck 110 S30V soon. Does anybody know what steel is used on a GEC #15? It's not also 01 is it like on Bullnose is it?

Really love the simple but effective Bullnose with 01 steel blade. I like everything about the knife plus it's not too expensive.

All the #15s so far are 1095. IIRC, GEC only used O1 on their Farm and Field lines (Bullnose, Hay'n Helper, and #99, i might be missing one more...). You could get a Queen #51 Dogleg jack that is also 3 1/2" closed but on a mini trapper frame in D2. Here's my group of Queen's mini trapper framed knives. The gray Birds Eye Maple and the winterbottom delrin seem to still be available. The white carved stag bone might be lurking out there somewhere too. Not pictured but Queens #11 Utility is their slimline trapper. It's 4 1/8" closed.

Queen Cutlery's Amber Carved Stag Bone with D2 offers quality and decent finish in my experience. Consider their liner-lock knives(they have the conventional slipjoint backspring plus a liner-lock, very safe and secure) I favour the Teardop model also in Zebrawood and here's their Copperhead liner-lock.

Good to know 2dead. I actually have a GEC #15 that is getting traded to someone else tomarrow. Like it but bought it for him for the trade. Most 1095 blades i have feel very hard even the thinner ones like BK11 but the blades on the GEC 15 blades have some bend to them. Actually quite alot. Is the heat treat on the GEC just lower HRC ? Any one know what the HRC is on GEC's? Couldn't find it. Does the D2 on the Queen's have a higher HRC that's makes the blade feel harder/stronger than GEC's 1095? Cause that's what i'd prefer.

Yes I got this one off the exchange. No issues, just a user. I have another in curly zebra.
