What is your favorite small fixed blade carry knife (under 5" black length)?

Its not a ninja weapon, its a pruning tool for doing your gardening.....
Haha yea I wish a North Dorkota judge would see it that way, but unfortunately not. They will imagine the worst and toss my butt in a cell. This State is incredibly corrupt.

Not to go too far with that, would South Dakota be more of a free state? Just a thought.

Top to bottom
Bradford Guardian 3 - Great little EDC that you can get in a variety of steels and blade shapes (this one has some custom scales)

CRKT Stiff K.I.S.S. - Out of production for a long time now, but makes a great beater for in the garage, doing household projects, etc. Thick like a mini pry bar, and just as tough. The little thing has scraped, prayed, cut, and punctured all sorts of crap over the years.

Benchmade Hidden Canyon Hunter - Probably my most carried EDC fixie. Some of that is due to the sheath though (I’ll get to that in a minute). If you like a lot of belly, this is the knife for you. Doesn’t lend itself to precision cuts so much, but it glides through long sections of material (like cutting a tarp in half, or skinning game) and works well on tall thick material.

Brous Blades Silent Soldier - Another that I think has been long out of production. Also, it’s more of a self defense blade, but I actually find it quite a usable little knife. For as thick as it is, it’s a little razor blade with a very useful tip. I usually prefer something in the 3-4” range, but sometimes nothing is more useful than a little knife.

(edit: linked the wrong image)

So, here they all are in their sheaths L-R
The Brouse is really a necker, but I’ve run some cord through it and rides horizontally an a belt very discreetly. Also, might be one of the best formed Kydex sheaths to come from a knife maker. Snaps in with a solid click, won’t ever fall out, but doesn’t stick when you try to pull it out.

The Benchmade is riding in an aftermarket one from Armatus Carry (the original sheath absolutely sucked). This sheath alone ss the primary reason I carry the Benchmade more than any other small FB. Like the Brouse, it just clicks in and out so positively, and hold it tight. I’m so confident in it, when I clip it to the shoulder strap of my hiking pack, it’s facing handle down. I keep it on a Tek-Lok, but you can use any clip you like. They make sheaths for a variety of all the most popular FBs, so if you end up with an ESEE, Bradford, Tops, etc, chances are they’ll have one.

The CRKT’s works, but is nothing special

The Bradford, again, works, but is nothing special. I’m actually slightly disappointed in it. It’s just overtly bulky for a 3” EDC fixed blade. I’ll be ordering an Armatus for it sometime this spring before we really get into camping/hiking season really hits around here.

I wouldn't call "under 5 in" a "small" knife. "Small" fixed blade, to me, is "under 3 in blade". 3-5 in is "medium".

My primary fixed blade knife is a vintage Gerber Pro Guide II Drop Point Hunter. The blade is 4 3/8" clear of the scales, with an overall length of 9 3/8", and it is definitely not a "small" knife. The smallest fixed blade I have is my Buck Diamondback 476, which has a 3 1/4" blade clear of the handle, and is a little over 7" overall length. That's my lunch prep knife on the go. TBPH, I think the blade is too pointy, and would love to grind it back a bit, if I had the equipment to do so.

The one that caught my eye recently is the MKM Pocket Tango, designed by David C. Andersen of KnifeCenter. It has a 2.91" blade and is 6.69" long. It's a bit too pricey for me to actually buy (I don't need Magnacut), but it would be a nice replacement for my lunch knife:

BTW, I live in Vermont, a constitutional carry state, so I'm free to carry whatever I like, however I like. I just don't see the point of a knife that has larger than a 5" blade, because if I need to cut something bigger than what a 4-5" blade can handle, I'll just get a bigger tool, like an axe or a saw.

Oh, and speaking of Vermont, I'd really, really love a couple of Furnace Brook Iron Works (Scott Hawley) blades. They appeal to the part of me that loves historical things. His Frontier Trade Knife is my favorite style of fixed blade, and it has a 5" blade and is 9 3/4" long, with a 5/32" thick blade.

Did you have a bad run in with the law at some point? I live in Western ND and know a state trooper and a few sheriffs deputies personally. Law enforcement wouldn’t bat an eye at anything posted in this thread unless you were looking to cause trouble out here.

IMG_0134.jpegIMG_0133.jpegAlso, another two, the smaller knife is under 5 inches, the larger may just be about 5. The knife in the post above was a good bargain and worth it to try it, and these ( ZL knives from Croatia) in this post are just a good practical size.
