I've gone back and forth between 3v and Elmax and am leaning towards Elmax , it really is awesome steel. I guess m390 is a close 3rd

"Tool" steels... A2, S7, 3V, D2

420hc , 440b, 1070 - 1095, a2, 01, s7, l6, 3v, and a few others on fixed blades.

3V is always at the top of my list for fixed blades. In my mind, fixed blades are for tough jobs. 3V is tough as nails, yet will sharpen to a keen edge & hold it for quite a while.

Agree with others, tool steel A2, D2, etc... Which is great for me because they're half the price of the fixed blades with designer steels.

Delta 3v, 3v, 1095, O1, 20cv.
INFI and SR-101 are two steels that I want to try.

CPM-M4, 10V, 4V, Z-Ware, CPM-154, S90V and 3V. I have knives with these steels.
My preference is 4V, all are good performing steels.

1095, 3V and D2
IMO 1095 is a simple option in most case with a good price/quality/usage ratio

For small blades , more EDC oriented kind of use, I like m390

1095, 5160, O1, 3V.
1095 is my most used fixed blade steel. Cheap, works and dead nuts simple to sharpen. Works great as a beater knife.
I like O1 and 5160, have limited samples for it. 5160 is my hunting knife, works great. O1 tends to be my camping knife.
I love 3V, but it seems to be next to impossible to get one in a non-tactical pattern. I love my wood scales and leather sheaths.

Bark river makes a lot of traditional blade styles in 3v

Anyone familiar with Vanadis 4 extra steel?
It's a Bohler steel not too dissimilar to Crucible's 3V. A bit more of everything, except lacking 3V's small amount of Tungsten and no Silica.
