What Is Your Favorite Syderco and Why?

Even though I've stated which are my favorites there are still some specialty type Spyders that I think deserve honorable mention. First of all my most favorite fixed blade Spyder is my original TEMPERANCE 1 model ( PE & SE)>> even though it was made about 12 years ago I still consider it ahead of it's time.

Other specialty models include all of my C-17 Catcherman models as well as my Dodo models. And in the Hawkbill category you can't beat the Harpy and Spyderhawk. It's really hard to have just one favorite because there are so many models that are just outright awesome. The SPYDER bit me and then I SAW THE LIGHT ( Surefire Flashlights :D)

Lately I've been in manix 2 mode. It should be said tho, that asking such a question from a brand like spyderco is kind of absurd. (OP)

I bought the CF cruwear version, and it was a home run right out of the box. I like the smooth scales that don't collect dirt or shred pockets, I love how cruwear performs, the ergonomics and the flickability.

Someone else said it here before and it rang true to me.. "my favorite spyderco is whatever one I'm carrying that day".

After almost a year in EDC rotation... probably the Spydiechef. It just works so good for daily tasks and especially for food processing at home, camp, hike, vacation, etc.

I've had lots of favorite Spydies over the years, tastes change. Currently I'm really enjoying the Manix 2 Lightweight. Any of the varieties are fine by me. I like the lack of weight, super ergonomic handle, bidirectional texture, larger Spydie Hole, wire clip and Ball Lock. Pretty much everything about the knife I like!

This is a "no-brainer" for me. All things considered the Southad is my favorite knife, not just my favorite Spyderco. I'll admit up front, one has to realize this knife is a push-button flipper, not an ultra-snappy light switcher. Once you figure that out, the shape of the flipper tab makes sense and the action is very good.

The fit and finish are amazing. Every corner of the scale and blade is perfectly 'melted.' The stonewash is perfect. Centering and lockup are perfect. 204p, Ti, G10--Materials can't be faulted. It's not heavy (4.1 oz IIRC). The G10 is a bit grippy out of the box, but with carry it perfects itself.

Aesthetics are a personal thing...but DANG, they do it for me! Gently flowing organic curves and just a little eccentricity to keep it interesting (eccentric scale thickness, harpoonish sheeps-footish blade, unique overtravel mechanism). Honestly, I like the poo brown color and I may be the only soul alive that actially *appreciates* the pocket clip!

Look at the profile pic--yummy! Narrow = great in the pocket.

Whoops. I didn't mean to write a whole review! :D

Also know that I love the Native 5LW and have huge respect for the PM2 as a functional cutting tool. The Southard is just on another level.

Almost every time I go to my local knife store I handle their Southards on display. Every time I want one so bad. I too find it a handsome knife; love the pocket clip, poopoo scales, everything! I think it is one of Spydies most handsome knives and I want it ao bad!!!!

But then I look at the tip. If you look at the Southard tip it sits at the bottom of the edge grind. The very very tip thus is paper thin! I am even more scared of breaking it than a PM2 tip, and I'm crapping my pants over the PM2 tip!

Dragonfly salt SE.

It cuts anything I need it to, fits perfectly in hand, easy to sharpen...yes its easy to sharpen its only ground one one side and its a super short blade. Lock up is excellent, clips perfect, love the color and it cant rust. I own several and its probably my hardest used knife. I use it in the garden, doing carpentry, at the beach, camping, fishing EDC. Its just perfect IMO all the blade you realistically need for everyday life.

(personal rant for people that use their weapons for self defense and think a knife needs to do everything in all categories in order to be perfect)
"but you cant use it for self defense!" well, I suppose you could, I watched a video by Mr. Janich demonstration the cutting power of small blades against a simulated Human arm with clothing on it. The tiny knife cut straight through to the bone around the simulated arm. Causing a very traumatic wound, I believe it was a delica in the demo but the DF is a tad smaller but with way my cutting power due to the serrations. That said, my knives are tools and not for self defense.... "But what if you had to defend yourself?"... since I am not a trained knife fighter and dont plan on going to jail with using a deadly weapon ...my sneakers for running away work great, im pretty quick :). "yea sure,,,but what if you had to use it?"... well if running away doesn't work I suppose, my fists, then pepper spray and if you had no real alternative I suppose one of my many firearms. (rant over , sorry in advance)

Its the best knife ever and I cant wait for the new hawkbill version to add to the collection. I plan on getting a few and modding them for fun .

Oh a small knife like the Dragonfly can definitely be used in SD scenarios. It has excellent grip for such a small knife. Look at blades like the Fred Perrin La Griffe for other examples of high retention little self defense knives. Obviously it is not as ideal as a nodachi or a halberd but I haven't been EDCing my pole arms much lately anyway....

We've come a long way from the 0 retention thumb or lapel dagger.

The DragonFly2 in ZDP-189 is my favorite Spyderco. The light weight, small size, useful blade, and quality steel make it a great knife to carry and use for my everyday tasks. There are others that are great knives too, but for my overall use, this is it. The PM2 in S110V is my favorite for a larger blade, but not something I want to carry unless doing outdoors stuff like hiking.

It'd have to be a Military for me. Lot of blade, lot of handle, still rides well. Slices, dices, works in the kitchen and on a trail. I haven't found it wanting for anything. And it's light!
