What is your fondest memory of Schrade knives?

My favorite memory was as a kid watching my granddad sharpen his Old Timer stockman. He used a small pocket hone and a circular motion to get it amazingly sharp. It was like a weekly ritual. He would sit in his recliner in the evening and sharpen. It was mesmerizing to watch him work. I've tried many times to sharpen knives the same way as him but they never come out as sharp as his. One day... :)

The first knife my Father gave me was a small Old Timer stockman. I also recently bought one of the 100 year anniversary Old Timers. :D

I recently purchased a few myself. Watch out for rust on the baksprings of these! two of them I ordered had rust, sent one back. the other was easy to polish off with some glo polish.

In 1968, I was working construction in Seattle for the summer. When summer ended, my boss bought me a Schrade Old Time Large Stockman as a going-away present. It was a thoughtful gift, and I have carried and used that knife since. The clip has a slight recurve now, but it's still a useful knife, and using it makes me remember a nice guy.

One of my favorite knives to carry was a little Schrade 108 with jigged brown handles. My daughter lost it years ago. I bought one like it on Ebay but it wasn't the same. My Dad has used many Schrades over the years. One that he still used today is a yellow handled "birds eye" stockman. Those blades are almost black but the knife still snaps. Dad is 83. I don't know how old that knife is but he has had it for many years. Reall sorry to hear about Schrade closing.

If you get a chance sometime, a picture of that knife would be appreciated.

I'll try to do that. Right now, I'm working in South Texas (I'm from New Mexico), so it might be a while.
