What is your knife Karma?

2014 is here, I just realized today that I have given a knife to several people over the years that I have met and liked. Christmas presents, Birthday's, and sometimes just for the hell of it.

This is kind of a thing I have just done, I generally have more knives than I can carry so I just let them go back into the universe with a new master. I love to examine them down the road to see how they have worn. It a good feeling to give a knife away and to see that it has been used and enjoyed.

Does anyone else have this tradition of sorts?

Go ahead and tell your stories, perhaps I may tell my very own later.

I got hooked on batoning and hard use fixed blades through the PIF thread, and it was fun to give and receive through the said PIF thread.

I have given a couple away in the PIF thread and I also gifted a CS Tuf-Lite to someone here on BF that lost his utility knife for work. Do giveaways here on BF count as well? I did one of those last year as well, where I gave three knives away. Hopefully I have some good Karma...

Gave a friend of mine my CQC-8 for Christmas.
It's a beauty of a folder, but since getting the horseman, I never really used it and that's a sin. So I decided to give it as a gift.
My friend is new into knives, but knows enough to know what is what amongst the brands, but he did drool over this one.
Just the look on his face was reward enough. I had also but a mirror edge on it to boot. All I asked of him was to use it.
He gets out a lot more than me, so I am looking forward to checking it out from time to time.
Good post
Cheers

In a way they count, If you still get that warm and fuzzy feeling inside.

"In a way they count"?
Maybe I didn't word my reply too well.
I actually got 2 kinds of fuzzy feelings.
1. The one I got from seeing his face light up when I gave it to him.
2. I now get to see a hard use folder get used the way it is supposed to be.:)
Cheers

Started with a forumite here, Cotherion who gave me a CS pocket bushman.
I have since helping on mates who has problem sharpening and taking care of their knives. Sharing and giving.

i've made it a christmas tradition of giving a knife to a couple who're friends of mine. they know i give them the rather inexpensive ones and i keep the pricey stuff for myself, but they ignore that as friends do and they really like the ones i give them. avid collectors is what they are. they display the knives proudly in a glass case, along with other collectibles like zippo torches and aluminum hip flasks (i must take a picture of that one of these days.) so far they've received in like-new condition:

gerber torch (chinese) to the girl
buck stockman (chinese) to the guy
buck 300 stockman (US)
amber bone cv case stockman
chestnut bone cv case tiny toothpick

Have given away more than I can remember (both inexpensive and expensive) and remember each one that I have been given, but beyond any doubt my "knife karma" "are" the life-long friends that I am fortunate to have in my life that have come about through knives.

Since summer I've given away 15 knives, seven requiring I mail them. What's shocking was that I received only one thank you note back in the mail.

In that time frame, I was given two knives. One was via a give-away here on BF, and you can bet your bottom dollar I mailed the generous man a thank you note. For the other gift, I returned the favor with another knife that week.

What happened to the common courtesy of the thank you note? They apparently aren't really all that common any more.

Spoiled people. You did you part and let it rest. Most importantly your intent is SINCERE and whether or not the other side feels it as much, it's out of your control.
I met a lot of lovely people here at BF and i cherished them. I only focus on sharing ideas and knowledge with them because it kept me going.

I gave a bunch of knives in the PIF threads, not sure if I "gained" any karma though. I did it because it feels good. Going to do a GAW in February for my one year/1,000 posts.

I've given away three, that were not specifically purchased as gifts. I've received 4. Looks like I'm behind.

I forgot my Bee knife with the axis lock at a friends house and told him to keep it and use it every day since he didn't normally carry a knife. I just saw him last week (after about 6 months) and the knife's edge was all chipped out and handles full of dirt and lint which shows he's been using it. Now I just gotta tell him he also needs to maintain it!

I also gave a friend a Bird Cara Cara, he works for ABC pest control and when I saw him last week after a month of use of the knife it was still decently sharp but it was missing the tip.

I gave away 2 Sebenzas and an XM-18 in the last couple years.
