What is your knife Karma?

I've done, and still do when I can, give knives to friends and my son. No rhyme orreason in the giving, I just like to surprise folks when I hand over a nice knife, usually to replace a crappy knife. Guess I've done this for the past 25 years. And I really like all the "pay it forward" threads we have had!

Many years ago a friend did me a very big favor. I didn't even ask him to do it, he knew I was in a tough spot and volunteered on his own to help, even going out of his way to do it.

I had a knife that I knew he really liked. This knife was one of my most valued knives at the time. As soon as I found out that he had done me the favor, I surprised him by giving him the knife.

I have missed that knife over the years, and although I wish I still had it, I have never regretted giving that knife to my friend, not for one second.

Have given away more than I can remember (both inexpensive and expensive) and remember each one that I have been given, but beyond any doubt my "knife karma" "are" the life-long friends that I am fortunate to have in my life that have come about through knives.

Amen to that.

A friend of a friend came over lastnight and crawled under our house to fix a plumbing issue we have been having, knowing we haven't had the cash to have it fixed nor the expierence to fix it, he fixed it with $20 in materials did the labor for free. The plumber would have charged at least $200. After all was said and done we had a few beers and B.S.'d for awhile and started talking blades. After showing him some in a drawer, I noticed him eyeing a Mantis Chaos Fixed blade in 154cm. I bought that back in the day when I knew nothing about knives, after him handling for awhile It was his, as payment for fixing our plumbing, and the guy still tried to buy it from me. Before he left he said to me, give me a call if you ever need help again, and he would bring the beer next time.

This Christmas I gave SAKs to the family & friends. My nephew's Boy Scout troop got a lot of TSA knives as a fundraiser so I could be generous both ways without spending a fortune:

Vic SAK SD keyring Classic's for all the non-knife people. Ladies like the miniaturization and the 'cute' scissors.
A Swiss Champ with all the toys I once carried up Kilimanjaro for the 10 year old neighbor lad who just lost his Dad. If he hangs onto it he'll never outgrow it.

Giving really can be better than getting.

I have given away many knives, not for the Karam just because I like doing it. I have given blades to my dad and step dad because they never carried one. Gave some to my little bro. I also gave to my brother firefighters at work. They all know I like knives and are always asking me what a good knife to buy would be so I just thinned out my collection a little to save them the trouble lol.

I have given away many knives over the years and a few here recently on the PIF thread. I recently had to sell off many of my knives due to an unforeseen financial burden that sprang its ugly head up. And then about the same time, I won the Christmas GAW put on by Sulaco . Now if that isn't knife Karma, I don't know what is. Oh and by the way, the RAT 1 is in my pocket today :D

I gave my stepson a Canal Street Trapper for Christmas as well as a KSF pocket sheath. He said it was too nice to use and would use for a dress knife so I mailed him an old TL-29 which was in great shape. He is in A/C installation and repair and LOVED the TL-29.

This is a good one.
Cheers

I did something like that when I gave my brother a Hinderer. I was showing him a couple different size Hinderers and CRK's, and he really liked the 3" XM-18. He went to hand it back to me, and I said "Merry Christmas". He was surprised as could be, but sure wasn't going to refuse it. :D

I give knives away regularly. In fact, I gave my brother-in-law's dad an old fixed blade Boker this past weekend because he was tired of his el cheapo work knife. I've given several others away both here on the forum and in my personal life. Some for occasions like birthdays or anniversaries and some just because.
