What is your most comfortable knife?

I started thinking about this the other day, as I was rearranging my knives. After handling them all. My most comfortable folder is my my Todd Begg Gent's Glimpse. It is comfy in a variety of positions in the hand, it is comfy to carry in the pocket, and it is comfy to use. And my most comfy fixed blade, is my Bill BUxton Hunter. What about you? Pix would be nice, if you have them.

Good thread, Suz!:)

This is my most comfortable knife to carry all day long and for peeling apples, cutting cardboard and zipties and other stuff, it's one of Will Leavitt's infamous EDKs:

For chopping sh!t up, I can use this Matt Lamey knife all day. The handle is nice to hold and the balance is really good:

This Tai Goo BMG, (riving knife) is THE MOST comfortable handling knife I own. It's almost like voodoo. I don't know how he does it, but that Tai Goo is a mad genius.

My most comfortable full size. One of, if not the most comfortable handles I have ever had the pleasure to hold. Jerry's trigger style grip is right on the money. He uses this grip on a couple of his standard models.

My most comfortable Hunter. The stag offers a sure grip and the shape fits the hand very well and offers good leverage for skinning task.

An honest answer would be in a small knife this Neil Blackwood has caped and skinned alot of animals so maybe it is that I just used it alot.

In a large knife my old stag and carbon Bagwell is a good friend that feels the best in my hand of all my bowie's

Holding a knife in your hand can tell you a fair bit about comfort. Using it can tell you a whole lot more. I thought the handle I put on this hunter was pretty much perfect, but in use, I found a bit of a hot spot right under the pinky finger. That part of the handle just needed to be dished out and flattened ever so slightly. Small change that made a big difference. Now it is perfect (for me, anyway).

Much harder trick to turn is making a handle that feels great not just to one person, but a whole lot of different persons. I'd put ths handle of this Dan Farr chopper in the as-good-as-it-gets category in terms of comfort and ergonomics.

While I haven't used it, I did extensively test its twin (Dan's actual competition knife) and was tremendously impressed.

Dan says that the handle of the black powder-coated camp bowie I got from him at Blade may be his best handle yet, and he may be right - it feels fabulous. Haven't tried it out yet, though.

For a small knife, I have to give a nod to this Burt Foster utility - just melts into your hand:

My most comfortable big fixed blade is my Bowie made by Pierre-Henri Monnet

Tough to choose on my folders but this Chamblin is just the right size and feels just right in my hand. I think is has allot to do with the partially sunken joints:

I have at least 20 small fixed blades to choose from. This Damascus personal made by Burt Foster is the one I reach for most often. Fits my hand like it belongs there:

Nice knives everyone!

My Fitch hunter is my most comfortable small user...

...but I got this new one from Don last month, it feels even better in hand.
Thanks, Don.

I like wood handles, don't I.

Most comfortable big knife is my Filicietti.

Then my Fitch Bowie.

fixed blade : toss up between my Blackwood Henchman ( due to its balance and thin-ness ) and a Rinaldi Matrix due to the comfort of the handle , well rounded and its ability to be used for extended lengths of time without raising any hot spots.

folder: Strider PT CC , perhaps one the most ergo folders I have used. Fits my hand like a glove. My Ken Erickson is pretty darn comfy as well , not sharp edges other than the one on the blade. It had that worn feeling the day it arrived.

That Farr is one of the nicest, to me, looking knives I've ever seen, and that little Foster of yours I've seen so many times and yet it always makes me smile:).

Roger, could you tell me, please, what are the dimensions of this small Foster Utility?

I have few Burt's knives and all of them are exceptionally comfortable in hand.

To continue the Burt Foster love in... :D

This is to date the most comfortable small knife I own. It's Burt Foster's new water cut Blue Collar Hunter. The handle has a slightly unorthodox grip with 3 fingers on the handle with the point of the butt between the ring finger and the pinky. Well as you would expect from Burt that even in my large hands this feels secure and controlled and very comfortable.

My most comfortable large knife is by a local British Columbia maker Dave McKenzie aka "Conan". It looks odd in that it looks like a big slab for a handle but there's no hot spots and because it cuts so well you can use it comfortably for a long time. That's a 9.5" blade in 1095 with cypress burl handle and wrought iron.

So far I haven't used this knife but it fits my hand and grip incredibly. Knife by Burt Foster.

You guys have beautiful knives and take some great pictures of them.

I have a few that would be very similar as far as most comfortable. I really like this knife, it’s the one in the middle, chances are it’s the one I’ll have on my belt when I need to carry a fix blade.

The long one is a fine knife in the hand too. The bottom head knife was a custom order for leather work. It’s much smaller than the traditional head knife or round knife. All of these where made by my friend Tony Bell.

I get alot of use out of this neck knife, it's small, total lenght about 5 1/2" but it fits and holds an edge like the fine tool steel it is. Another buddy made this one, Edgar Chattin, I've got a long hunter and a tomahawk made by Edgar too.

As far as folding knives go I carry a Victorinox Swiss Army knife all the time but a pocket knife I carry occasionally that is much more comfortable to use is the simple medium sized Opinel.

This is a very inexpensive pocket knife, it is not going to impress anyone but the steel is very good and thick enough to do the job at hand, the simple locking mechanism is functional. One of my favorite all time pocket knives.

In terms of all day use I would have to say that this Crotts is the most comfortable knife that I own.

Lorien.... I'm humbled to be included with makers like Lamey and Tai. You just included me because I stole the EDK name for the knife and call it a "Lorien Wrap". :p

Lovely knives and this thread needs a bladesmith's chant,

BURT FOSTER, BURT FOSTER BURT FOSTERBURTFOSTERBURTFORSTER!!!!! :p

Lorien - thanks.

mbely2 - I'll measure it when I get home - shoot me a PM if I forget.

Doug - I LOVE that Hanson.

Stuart - Blue Collars rule!

Jon - I briefly had my mits on that laminate at Blade - very comfortably inded.
