What is your New Year's Knife Resolution for 2022?

I am going to just keep buying knives I will never have any cash only knives and once I've spent all my money I shall rethink my life choices.

Using the wrong word is a case of mistaken word usage, not grammar. I don't teach normally, but I don't mind giving you this lesson. šŸ˜‰

Using the wrong word is a case of mistaken word usage that results in incorrect grammar.

Grammar is a system of usage, professor. You're quibbling over a moniker in a most insipid way.

I resolve to not always feel like I have to get the last word in every discussion. Especially on the Internet.

I resolve to get serious about freehand sharpening.

I also resolve to light a candle every day and pray that Spyderco brings back the Slysz Bowie and I can buy one. It's the only way that I will ever get the sound of Nick Shabazz's voice out of my head.

Spyderco slysz Bowie original. Has some aftermarket parts. Glow in the dark carbon fiber backspacer. Aftermarket clip. Can find the original parts but if they pop up I’ll ship them.
Carried never sharpened. Comes with box and orange carbon fiber scale

$525 shipped conus
Day late $ short. Good luck on that hunt.

I'll keep an eye out Mr. Coffee

To buy more work knives. I.e SAK or cheaper single blade knives. I currently only have 4 knives like this to choose from. I want to increase this to 7 or 8.
Also I want to improve my freehand sharpening technique . I can get a knife hair shaving sharp, but the edges look a bit messy and uneven.

A lefty Umnumzaan, a few Busse hopefully an ASH 1 and a few Redmeadow knives should cover this year.

edited plus the Goode and Wilson I have on order.

So I'm completely restarting my knife collection from the bottom as we speak. Sold all of them of value off 8 years ago during trying times and only currently have about 5 knives in my possession. Which feels good, it also feels good not having a huge amount of knives that end up kind of weighing me down mentally. I think what I'd like to do this year is only have 3 "nice" knives at a time. I've got some good knives but I think I'll limit my new purchases to 3 in my possession at a time. If I want a new one, decide which one to sell.

I just bought my first knife of the year today.

15 year hiatus from BF. Back into the game and I am astonished at what is available in production knives.

I'm gonna keep buying in 22 until I find what fits my hand, preferred grind and handle material.

Great thread op !

Nice man, glad you're back! I've got the same story. Haven't been back here or into knives in almost a decade. Isn't it crazy how much knife you can get for the money now days? These overseas companies are selling Ti framelocks starting at like a hundred bucks and it's just blowing me away.

Is "to not always feel" a split infinitive?

I don’t know if I would call this a ā€œresolutionā€ but I’m going to start buying knives that I want right when I want them. I’m not going to delay and put it off only for it to become out of stock before I decide to pull the trigger. I’m going to buy it, use it and enjoy it.

Ha! Once I figure out wht I want, it’s usually long gone & (maybe) never to be seen again.

My resolution is to buy a couple more OTFs this year. Hopefully I can find a few that speak to me while they’re still in stock & close enough to pay day.

Try to not to buy knives unless I really really, really really really, want them.

So nothing new under the sun for 2022..

For me, I resolve to buy less knives and focus instead on just getting a few higher quality premium production and custom blades. Other than the dozen or so knives that are on my existing list of buy when available or unless a company blows me away with a new release, that's the plan going forward.
It's early March and I've already gotten 11 knives, with 2 more ordered and on the way. It's possible that I haven't figured out this buying fewer knives thing quite yet. If 2022 was only three months old though, I think I've got a handle on things.

On the other hand, most of the purchases were in keeping with my long term plans. I moved up the timing on purchases on older Cold Steel models (4) I would have gotten anyways, to hedge against the current direction the company seems to be going in. I bought the 2 higher end production models I already planned to get this year, but earlier than expected, owing to them being on sale. 2 were planned purchases that were going to be bought at some point in the near future. 3 additional purchases were on my buy when available list. So technically, there were only 2 that looks cool impulse buys. That's some commendable restraint that is. I should celebrate by buying another knife or something...
