I have spent the past few weeks making my own custom knife, and I thought that would satisfy me until Gene Osborn's wife, Pat, sent me some pictures of Gene's latest work.
I have come to appreciate Gene's folders not only as tools and knives, but as leading-edge art statements.
He has the most innovative file patterns imaginable, and some of them unimaginable.
I realize I will need to commission Gene to make a manual, scale release folder with full file-work, exotic scales (maybe stag or elk antler), multicolor titanium liners (a Gene Osborn specialty), and a Gene Osborn slow-drop-point stiletto blade.
I will post pictures of the new knives later.
You can see some examples of Gene's current offerings here.
I especially like GO-B22 and GO-L13.
Well, I'd better start saving up those nickel and dimes.

By the way, thanks for the fantastic Hossom link, and John Greco makes absolutely super knives.

I have a carry size bowie coming very soon from Tim Hancock with 6.75" clip point forged 52100 blade, presentation ironwood handle and nickel silver guard and buttcap. Also, within a couple of weeks, I should get my large fly pattern decorated Sebenza. I might get a call soon from R.J. Martin about my mini Kozuka. Now, if I can only figure out how to pay for all this. I guess we can eat Spam and macaroni and cheese for another couple of weeks.

Finally I have to order another Jerry Hossom with a 4-6 inch blade in the next 6 months to match this masterpiece I got in CPM3V: http://albums.photopoint.com/j/ViewPhoto?u=135433&a=992914&p=16964392

And that about covers it (as far as my bank account goes.)

I know I don't want to see this on paper...

I am picking up a Tom Maringer Bowie this weekend to go along with the Vorpal I already own.

A Randall 16-7 SP1 and Model 2 on order.

Emerson CQC-6 and CQC-8 on order.

I am corresponding with Ricardo Velarde to finalize an idea I have on an Integral sub-hilt.

Joe Kious 3/4 interframe with stag or black-lip MOP panels.

Something from S.R. Johnson, but I am deciding if I am going to bite the bullet and go all out...Munich Fighter or a sub-hilt with stag scales.

Mike Smith reverse tanto. Tactical design but gent hardware.

Just to make this thread a tad more interesting...

Glock 23 .40 I am working a knife trade on.

I have two M-1s on order from the CMP (a select grade and a collector's grade).

Commander-size .45, either a Kimber or a Colt.

Ouch, I knew I shouldn't have put that all on one page.

If you are reading this MrG, which Neck knife are you ordering from Jerry? What does it look like?

It is real simple. My next custom knife will be the one that comes into the studio for photo's (and strikes my fancy)that the maker is willing to work out a trade. Everyone wins. I get a new knife (always a win). The maker gets photographs of his knife (I hope he thinks that is a win). The magazines gets something nice to put in print (a win for everyone). And last, my wife gets something to complain about (only she wins).

This Sunday I'll have my first look at the chute knife I designed & ordered from Rick Ludwig here in NYC. It's back from the heat-treaters & the guard has been silver-soldered- I'll look at his stock of hardwoods & select something for the handle slabs. I'm pretty tickled. If you've never commissioned a knife from a maker, you're really missing a unique experience- it's the part where the "soul" of the knife is born.

I have three on some form of order:
TKC-L folder, like the prototype, but with 420V blade and Ironwood handles. The TKC-L fixed blade, also w/ ironwood and a Mike Alexander fixed blade. Hopefully I'll also be doing some web work for Bailey Bradshaw, which'll bring one of his wonderful pieces into my hands

Hoping to get Matt Lamey, John Fitch and Alan Folts and Kit to work on something for me as soon as I am sure I have handled the other committments.
