What is your take on "prototypes"?

Charlie,That is a beauty!Would that be a Muskman?(Muskrat/Stockman)As for protos,i ran into a few Russlocks and Copperlocks with the telltale dotted tangs that signal a prototype for certain years. It was a good thing to have something unique in my collection for a time.Parker hasnt been the only one to hype knives in that fashion, but he was certainly the master of it.

I note that the GEC protos cost around TWICE what the run of the mill production knives cost, this seems a steep premium to my mind.

I think finding an OLD proto (like Charlie's) is/would be pretty cool. A lot of history behind it and very unique in nature. Personally, I think manufacturers selling protos of CURRENT knives is just a marketing/profiteering ploy and it is a strech to believe that if you are buying it for investment purposes, it will actually pay off.

I use a 0 on the first knife of every pattern if i put a different blade on it the knife is a 0. I dont charge any more or less for these knifes. This means its the first of this pattern i have made. I also number number 1-6. The 0 knifes might be slightly different than the numbered knifes. I dont think any of these patterns made today are new to any of us. I have a lot of 0's that prob are not as good as the 10th knife of the same pattern.

Whether or not GEC Prototypes turn out in the future to be worth more (relatively) than their serialized or non-serialized brethren, well, we'll just have to wait for what happens and see if a small market in them develops

Collecting is weird

Personally, I prefer the non-serialized ones, unless I really want a particular model and have no choice but to get numbered example
