What is your weight limit on EDC

I don't like knives that are too light. As sturdy as they may be, they "feel" flimsy in the hand and the balance seems off (too much weight in the blade and not enough in the handle). For me, a knife has to have good balance and heft to it. For folders, somewhere around 4 - 5oz. is my upper limit, but most of my knives are around 3 oz, with the blade being around 3 inches.

I seem to hit the (legal) size limits long before I could choose a knife that might weigh too much.

If a knife is really good in other aspects I can overlook weight concerns and carry it.

That said I prefer 2-3 ounces for a true EDC. I carried a Leatherman Wave today in my back pocket and it felt like a brick compared to my Vic Soldier for example.

My most frequently carried knives are all very light: Spyderco Centofante 3, UKPK, Caly Jr ZDP189. My Paramilitary and ZDP189 Endura are both about 3.5 ounces. I like them, but they are a bit large and heavy compared to my UKPK, which generally does everything I need a knife to do.

I find larger knives more comfortable carried IWB.

My BM 710 is about 4.5 oz. That is my heaviest. Depends on what clothes I am wearing. Golf shorts usually go with my Delica FRN handle. Heavy jeans go to the 710.

I am kind of a fanatic when it comes to weight. I often take a scale with me when I go to shows, because makers tend not to know how much their knives weigh. 4 oz. is my EDC limit, and I prefer less. A lot of times the big beefy folders are just overweight, because the extra beef is in a place that is not going to break anyway.

I don't know why more makers don't emphasize weight reduction. Long ago makers started using titanium(I think Bob T may have been the first) because of it's strength/weight properties, but somewhere along the line, the original reason for using ti was forgotten. I have a Brad Duncan 'Misfit' framelock with a decent-sized blade (3.25") that weighs just 3.2 oz. Why don't other makers do this?

An extra .5 oz. might not seem like much, but if you add up the weight of your knife, light, keys, phone, etc., you might be suprised at how much you're lugging around.

About 2.5 ounces, but that's only with jeans on. Otherwise, it's less than that.

haha yeah I have one of the big harddrive ipods and of course I have the hard accryllic case with it so it has its own orbit. its got its own pocket and the only knife I ever put in it iis one of my pharmaceutical saks.

I typically carry a Buck 110 (7.2 ounces). At work it's in my pocket. Away from work it's on my belt. I weigh in at 4160 ounces, so the extra 7.2 isn't too much.

I'm with DaleRunner....i cant stand lightweight knives.

no weight limit here. I've EDC'ed my heavy bowie (4lbs) slung over my shoulder. dont even notice it.

I dont really have a weight limit, even if the knife is really heavy. It all depends on how I carry it and how comfortable it feels when I carry it.

My pants and shorts tend to have smaller pockets, and I carry a lot of stuff in them, so it's more about size for me than mass.

With some of my Levi's, anything much bigger than an 85mm SAK with only a few layers means I'm going to have to leave things out of my pockets.

If it has a clip, weight is absolutely no concern. Sometimes I carry a 12.5 oz. Leatherman Surge in my RF jeans pocket, and have several times had the experience of forgetting it was there until putting my hand in the pocket for keys. The heaviest folder I use is a Buck 110 that usually rides in a sheath. Carried on a belt, just about anything is manageable. Whatever I carry depends on my needs or notions, never on weight.

I don't care about weight. Make it strong and I will carry it. I carry my Leatherman Surge with the optional pocket clip and an Extrema Ratio Fulcrum 2 d. So I have enough weight to hold me down in the West Texas wind!

General rule of thumb is that it must be somewhere under 4 lbs. I've never weighed any of my knives, but my Hinderer XM-18 seems to relatively heavy to other knives I've had and it doesn't bother me.
