Its like guys who hike with an Ipod in. If you can't enjoy the peace and solitude of the wilderness....I pity you

wha...?

Anyways, nice pics Stab, what parts are ya from? ontario area? nice forest you have there sir. :D

leave no trace man.

I wouldn't concern myself about it in a low elevation deciduous forest. It would different if they hacked open a bunch of barrel cacti in Southern Arizona just to squeeze some water out of the pulp or hacked down green trees in a high and dry mountain environment. It looks like they had lots of fun though I can't make out if that's a shelter or reflector wall. It's kinda neither. But it could be a shelter quickly with fresh greens on top or a good reflector with a space blanket. There was no need for either so they likely just left it be. It looks cool though. The gloves are probably for sap, bugs, spiders, and keeping cuts off clumsy hands. That's why I wear em. Though not blue.

Yeaaaaa, lol I love the pics. sitting by a fire and roasting some hotdogs having a warm drink and just plain enjoying being outside.

Way to go man.

Bryan

Looks like a Great time Bro

I envy you for having that type of country to hike/camp in

Who made the blue handled chopper???

Ya know, i like this Forum for many reasons - and the subject of this thread being among them.

Thanks for re-kindling the essence of why we practice "Essential Skills" - not just to help us "survive"; rather to *live* and living is so much better than just surviving. It's good to be in company with those who also enjoy simple camping.

It's been alotta years since i "hot" camped (unless car camping w/the Fam....) and i'm inclined to start up again!

Windsor.:)

Whats with the blue gloves.

I already had them on from dragging the nasty old tarp out of the shelter...it was so wet I saw a red-backed newt! (I wish I had a pic of that little guy; I took him away from the shelter region to a nice damp area off to the side.)

leave no trace man.

That shelter has been there for over a year now, and others have used it as a site too, judging by the dissapearing wood and some traces.
And the fire pit area has helped keep people from burning the woods down:thumbup: (lugging those cement blocks was quite a chore.)
This is one trace I'm quite pleased to have left.;)

Who made the blue handled chopper???

Me!

Nice camp pics! Last Backpacking trip I did, my Brother and I ate Bratwurst cooked on a stick.

I used to backpack with cinderblocks in my pack, but they just took up too much space!:D

Yeah who made that blue handled monster? Nice Clax or is that the Forester?

For some reason, meat on a stick and a fire really speaks to something about us as men.:)
That's a Clax. When people say a knife isn't good for chopping wood, they aren't talking about a Clax.:D

so maybe im just ignorant but whats with the fire under the shelter?

When I dragged the tarp out that was full of bug filled water pools, the ground was so wet that a found a newt (other people used the shelter and didn't fold the tarp, evidently).
The fire dried the ground, and made it nice and warm. It took till about 2am, due to there being a shelter to avoid burning down, but the ground was still nice and warm 7 hours later when my dad got up. Went from cold, damp mud to a nice place to lay down.

very cool stuff, I love the woodland in that area, I miss the Nova Scotia woods we had.
not, highjacking, just some more pics!:D

Cool. I doubt that you'll find much zombie convo around here. Please remember that there are as many variations on outdoor recreational activities as there are people. I fall into the traditional Hunt\fish\camp categories but have other facets also. I OFTEN carry a cutting tool while metal detecting in remote areas. Anything from a machete, tomahawk, big fixed blade or a SAK. I've come across fresh bear tracks, scared up moose and sent them crashing through the swamp etc. At times I've simply walked the river shoreline with a fishing rod and listened to the Coyotes. I find a folder handy for gutting fish, cutting line etc. If dude wants to pack a folder because he mountain bikes the back forty, fine. I try to be a bit more open minded about human diversity and interests. It is arrogant of me to say that if someone isn't using my tools or enjoying the outdoors my way, they are wrong. I learn a lot from the people here simply because of the diversity. Have a good day everyone.

Maybe I miss read or miss interpreted the message the op was trying to send. I am referring to the fact that people can't go into the woods without an Ipod,Ipad, radio, laptop or who knows what else.
Like i said if thats not the message the OP was trying to send I apologize.
