ive been working on this for my brother for his birthday

and fitzo if you see this its the handle material we have been talking about

5160 drop point hunter with polyclay hanle slightly off balanced to try to keep the handle from hitting the ground first if dropped

i tried to get a hammon on this heat treated with firplace cement and quenched in tranny fluid thats how the blade came out from the ferric a pretty black

thinking about calling this knife Royal Midnight

Cool, Bart! What is your first impression of the stuff?

My wife is going to make "millefiore" polyclay handles for me to do letter openers for Christmas this year.

its great stuff just dont put it on glass when you put it in the oven

i think it would be best to put some wire and hang it from the rack
unless you are going to use it on a full tang

the stuff will be flatest on the side that is touching the glass or metal pan

other than that is way better than tooling out wood cus you can pre form it to what ever you want
it can be machined how ever you like

i let my girls have some sampe peaces to play and abuse and its still in 1 peace no cracks dings anything dropped it on the shop floor from waist high and over my head and nothing

but the stuff you get from the jewelry store ive seen get cracked i think cus its so small and thin

that handle is a jelly roll but i did it wrong lol so the purpple is just a visable line down 1 side and at the butt of the hanlde

Looks like your acid solution may have been too strong to show the hamon. Also 5169 is not known for showing vivd hamons anyway.

Bart,
The 5169 was a typo, sorry. I have had decent success with a mixture of about 4-1 so I guess it probaly was not your mixture.

you ever get a dark etch like this one?

thanks for all the great comments

if you were a paying customer how much would you pay for this blade? being reasonable
