well i was stupid enough to read a tutorial on building your own HT oven.....
so i figured "hey i can save money this way" but we all know just because you spent half as much doesn't mean you saved anything.

thank god my neighbor welds and does sheet metal work for a living.

just waiting on the digital controller from omega and i'll be all done!
well that and finish the bricks in the door:thumbup:

Nice one Mike, next time I come by I'll bring some cpm154cm blades that are ready for heat treat:D :D
Good job

Rick

COOL .. well unless you turn it on :p
nice job Mike
how many wats are you set up to suck up..

thanks guys... i fgure this will suck down some electric alright... but i look at it this way

piece of crap old kiln i have: runs off 110. takes 2 hours to hit 1450 then another half an hour to get back up once you put the blade in

this new kiln once completed: runs off 220 takes 10 minutes to get to 1500 and about 10 second to recover once you put the blade in

i think this one will actually be a lot better on electric that wasting time with the other one

rick: sounds good to me. we're gonna have a ball. but now i need some quench plates. i have stuff about 1/2" thick thats too thin right?

thanks again guys. i'll make sure to post pics when i fire that sucker up

It looks great to me. Your neighbor deserves a 12 pack for doing the welding for you.

Looks a little light on insulation, maybe you should wrap the whole thing in a 2" blanket of insuwool?
Just kidding - It looks great.

yeah the thick brick were overkill.. but i like d not having tomake as many intricate cuts as the original one on the tutorial.

i think the inside dimensions are roughly 4 by 6

Cool, er, I mean Hot! I could realy use a heat treat oven, ever get time I may have to build one like that. Good job.

Mike- I am upgrading my oven and would like to know which omega controller model number you are using. Also could you provide the link to the tutorial you referred to.

Thanks in advance,

Jim

Mike, what do you think your total cost making that is? I'm intrested in a heat treating oven sometime in the next year but i'm not sure if i should just buy a paragon or evenheat or build my own. I already have minimal shop time as it is, so my time's worth a good bit of money to me, hence i'm still undecided as to put the time into building my own, or buying a pre-made one.

i went with an omega 7800 series controller.... call omega and ext 2277 ask for pete he's a good man. he'll set you up with everything you need.

check out britishblades.com and go to the tutorial section. you'll see it there

Justin. i think i have about 500 into it.... half the price of an oen but a good deal of searching for some brick and a good deal of work into the metal for the box unless you know someone who knows what they're doing.

good luck guys!!
