What Kershaw folder is this and will Kershaw fix it?

I'm actually posting this for my nephew who use to work for a construction company a few years ago. His boss gave it to him but it has developed quite a lot of blade play recently. I think it might be the stop pin that's broken. Will Kershaw fix this even though he is not the original owner? Also, what model is this and how much were they selling for new?

As you can see, it has some love scars and was well used as it was his only quality folder.

The stop pin looks really rusted out.

The answers right in your picture..... the serial number "1590 gry" - via google shows it a ken onion design LE titanium speed bump. As for the blade play etc issues, If it was a direct warranty issue then I wouldn't hesitate that they would help ya out. But seeing how its old + well used, it seems like the issue seems to just be something that occurred after time + use [and perhaps fairly hard use [not assuming abuse ], just putting together the look on the blade + construction + handle wear + it looks like there is rust on the stop pin it]. Given this it makes me weary that something like this would be covered. As for "how much are they going for" again my answer is google/other sites that may sell used knives would be a good place to start.

Values cannot be provided to registered users unfortunately. However, the knife as noted is well used and is more than likely exhibiting normal wear and tear. I'll take a guess as to the warranty might replace the stop pin (where the rust is), but there is no guarantee that it will relieve the blade play. I'm not sure what KAI does as far as warranty work for knives that are discontinued.

The Titanium Speedbumps were a limited run, and I believe the grey one is the rarest of the Ti Bumps. This is only the second one I have ever seen and I look for them. :(

That's a very cool and well made knife. I think it's worth sending in. Technically kershaw doesn't have to do anything but they have a reputation for really caring about their customers and you might get someone that thinks it's cool to see an expensive knife that's been used hard. The worst that'll happen is they'll send it back to you and you'll be out a knife a few weeks.

I cringed when I saw what knife it was... I'd still buy one in this condition and customize it

They will bring it back to life either way....if they charge, which they possibley will in this case im confident it will be a fair price.

Wow! Thanks guys. I didn't even know how valued this model was. I also didn't even realize the handle was titanium. Are both sides titanium? I'm just now starting to look at Kershaw folders and didn't know the model number was etched on the left side of the blade.

I tried looking online for KS-1590 Ken Onion Bumps
and I've only seen the ones with blue or green anodized titanium handles but have never seen this gray model.

When he first got it, I did sharpen it on my EdgePro and put a really nice polished edge on it but he ended up sharpening it himself after it lost its bite again. I'm gonna have him contact Kershaw and see if they can do anything to help him out.

Yeah both sides are titanium. And you have quite the rare beauty as the grey is the most rare followed by blue then green bump!

I don't see how surface rust on the stop pin would contribute to blade play. Have you adjusted the pivot screw? Might just be working loose.

Also - rust is a sign of negligence more than abuse - a simple cleaning and lubrication occasionally will prevent rust on the components that can get rusty, particularly in your humid and salt rich locale.

It's a very nice knife and well worth cleaning up and doing a little maintenance.

Thanks for the pictures -

best regards-

Again, this is not mine as I would have taken better care of it if it was. I examined it once and it had vertical blade play and I could see the stop pin moving while doing so. I don't know if it's a floating pin design or not. Living in Guam, humidity is big factor here. I'll see if adjusting the pivot screw helps.

Hi jsp -

I probably should have said neglect rather than negligence - but either way, I don't think the knife was abused - just used as it should be.

I can't help you with the stop pin and if it is floating or not, as I have never had one of those models.

Up and down blade play might be more to do with the lockbar face against the tang of the knife - not the blade pivot.

At any rate - a great knife and congratulations to your friend for having such a nice one!

Te reason you didn't find anything on it is because you didn't search the entire name, "Kershaw 1590GRY". Yea, that baby looks like it was stropped by a rhino on some old concrete.

Yeah I was clicking on what Google was suggesting and didn't find much. I just did a search on the full model name you posted. Geez, it was a limited run but no one knows how many were made. Interesting.
