I know this has been asked before, but I cant find much on it. I'm looking to get a whole new set of belts 50-400 grit, but there are so many brands, and different types of belts I am lost. I've got a 2"x42" machine by the way.

thanks for everything

Tru-grit carries several.I use Norton Ceramics fro heavy grits then Klingspor for finer grits.I also never start with anything corser than 60 grit.

so what kind do I need, Aluminum Oxide, Silicon Carbide, Zircoina, Ceramic...
I assume some or one of these is/are better for low grit fast removal, and profiling, and others are better for higher grits.

oh and which numbers here are the grit numbers

Look on this page

this is the norton
02x042:242-060-965
Also try a few of the gators
02x042:242-120-A160CF

the 060 and 120 in those numbers is the grit size, they have belts up to 600 grit.

It is a structured abrasive that is in the shape of rectangles on the belt, they give a smooth finish and last along time. They are called gators because of the shape of the abrasive blocks look like a gators back.
