What kind of bite is this?

could a bite lead to a staph infection?

he said the other day (day before yesterday) he felt some itching under his watch so he took it off to scratch it... the next day those bumps were there. he said he did not bother them that much to cause that kind of sore to pop up. he said they hurt at first (sore to the touch) but now they are fine. just ugly. this guy wont go to the doc until he gets pretty damn sick. he is that hard headed. nothing i can do.

The fact that he had an itch then scratched then got bumps then this all sound like staph to me! In fact that is how you get a staph infection, scratching it into the skin! He won't be happy when he has huge holes in his arms !!!

you sure it was a brown that bit you and not another breed of recluse? the only reason why i am asking is bc according to the pics from browns your ankle should have fallen off lol..
Drama, drama. People act like every case is a worst case scenario. It is kind of scary when something's eating a hole in your skin, and from what I've read some of them get huge(wikipedia said up to 10"), but most brown recluse bites don't require any kind of medical attention, or even leave scars.
Whatever it was that bit your cousin, those bites look exactly like mine did. There was a hole full of puss, and I had to pull the blackened skin inside out with tweezers, because it was attached to the meat underneath. Sure wouldn't hurt for him to get checked out and cleaned out, just in case. Don't want it to get gangrenous and spread.

i will mention that to him. thanks man

Looks like one I had a few years ago from a brown recluse.
Who me, go to a doc from a bug bite. Na that was not going to happen.

(At least not until the tissue around the bite got necrotic and I had red marks all over the top portion of my body.) They had me on semi strong 'roids for over a month before the bite started healing. No way was mine going to heal on it's own. If that tissue starts showing necrotic signs he needs to go right away, if not now.

Tell cous to get his ass over there now. He will have a much shorter heal and less tissue damage.

ouch.... ill ride over by his house this evening on the 4 wheeler and tell him to get his butt to the walk in clinic. did you bite quite hurting after the first day? he says they do not bother him now.

Almost surely Brown Recluse. Sometimes they just run their course and go away but more often they start to kill off tissue and can result in the need for surgery to remove the dead stuff unless he sees a Dr and gets the appropriate treatment. My cousin had this same problem. Started out just like that and he didn't go to the Dr for two days and by the time he did he was pretty bad messsed up. With treatment they took out the nastiness inside it, packed it full of stuff and started some sort of meds. Even with all of that and it being ONE spider bite it healed like this:

that was HEALED and it was nasty..... hope it works out for him!

holy smokes! hell i might just call him real quick LOL

so i called him and talked to him more about what he has done the past few days to see where the contact COULD have happened and he told me something that i think maybe key to answering this.... he has a field above his house that has not been mowed in years. its pretty grown up. i have a 4 wheeler trail going around it bc of the chiggers. you drive through that really tall grass just once and i will guarantee you will have chiggers.

he mowed part of this field a few days ago.. i asked if he wore long sleeves and he said yes bc he knew there were chiggers and they get him everytime (hence the reason why he has not mowed it in years). he also said the itching started under his watch (where chiggers love to hide) and the next day those bumps were there. i am thinking he had a bad reaction to chigger bites. they are right above his watch and he has them on the back side of his arm as well. i remember a few years ago he something similar like this happen and he bitched about having chiggers. this is my theory.. recluse bites around here are just plain rare. i do not know anyone that has had one and we all play in the woods, chop wood and etc... luck? perhaps

he has skin issues and does not shower after mowing stuff like that. i do bc i hate chiggers and i check myself for ticks. he is a different breed lol...

again just another theory.. we will find out in a few days what it is LOL.. he wont go to the doc.

Just tell him to keep a close eye on those bites. As the post above your's will attest to, things may not go south very quickly. After a few days, maybe it's too late.

He's needs to see a doctor ASAP!!!

Your cousin needs to go to his local emergency department immediately. That is the best internet advice you'll get.

LOL... i told him his arm is gonna fall off by Friday.. i asked what his plans were and he said " Canadian Mist and Budweiser"... self medication?? :D

I hope it works out. You'd think if this had happened before, he'd remember. Those bites look pretty infected to me, but nobody can tell you anything from looking at that one picture on the internet. A doctor needs to examine that in person.

stopped back by yesterday after work and he had scooped out all the puss and black stuff, cleaned it and put neosporin on it. it looks better kinda but still. the holes are large in diameter... he is not complaining about it so we will see.

Those definitely look like (infected) spider bites to me... I've been bitten twice by what the doctors presumed were black widows and each time they ended up having to make incisions with scalpels to drain the infection and pack the hole with gauze. I had to make multiple trips thereafter to get the bites drained and re-packed and I believe I had to take antibiotics also.

it looks like two separate bites to me-OR thats a bloody big spider. If there are more on the other side .he surely would have noticed something That big crawling around on his arm biting him. Explore the vicinity for possible culprits.and go to the doc.

He needs to irrigate those pits with alcohol and smear some ichthammol on there right away. Picking at it and using neosporin just ain't gonna do it.

When I get an injury like that I irrigate it with rubbing alcohol or vodka 4 or 5 times a day and put icthammol on it every night with a bandaid over it. In the morning I take off the dressing and dump more alcohol on it. Usually gets better fairly quick.
