What kind of Buck do I have?

Years back I bought a Buck sheath knife at a Sports Unlimited in Cincinnati. It has a six inch blade that has serrations on the front top of the spine (over the clip point part, like the Buckmaster, but without the saw). The blade has a 'frosted' look to it with the Buck logo in a calligraphy style writing. Also on the blade it indicates that this was a run of 315, with mine being #104.Exactly what do I have and approximately what is its value?

Thanks

You will probably get answers if you give some more info. What else is on the blade, any numbers or anything? What is the handle material and so-on.

When you say its like the Buckmaster, are you just referring to the serrations or the overall style of knife??

As far as any more features, there is no number on the blade, but is the same size as the Special. When I said it was the same as the Buckmaster, I meant the blade was shaped like the Buckmaster (Not clip pointed like the Special) and had a serrated section on the front part of the top of the blade. The handle, pommel and guard all seem to be standard Buck style. The sheath is nylon with a plastic insert, like the Nighthawk.

It sounds like a variation of the Buck Fieldmate. One of them, the model 639 had what appeared to be a minature Buckmaster blade, complete with the sawback and serrations. There was another version with a buck special- like blade.

Blade: about 5.25 inches
Handle: hard rubber
sheath: Nylon with plastic insert (camo, or black)

I remember the Fieldmate, it had kraton handles, I have a Woodsman with a kraton handle, quite nice, but the one I'm talking about now does not have the saw on the spine, only the serrations on the tip, and has the hard fiberglass(?) handle.

it is so hard to guess right without a picture.

If you can post one it would help a great deal.

You bunch of rookies!:p :p :p

It is obvious :) that the knife is a model 639B2, catalogue number 8079. We made a special run of 315 of them in 1993, but i thought everyone knew that? :D MSRP was $72.00
We took the 119 Special, with a 639 blade, minus the broached saw teeth along the backbone, and bead blasted the whole unit. A very unique version of the Fieldmate/Special.
Hope this helps!

Joe, that's it exactly. Thanks for the information. If I can I'll try to get some pictures of in on here later on this week. BTW, I never have used this Buck much, and would like to. It's not worth too much to use is it?

Thanks

Worth too much to use? Only you can answer that one for sure. I would venture to say the knife is worth about $100 or so if it is NIB. If you are someone that collects the "survival" type knives like the 184 Buckmaster, the 185 Buckmaster LT, the 639, ect. The knife is definetely a hard one to find and should be stuffed in the sock drawer.
Hope this helps.

Well, I got some pictures of it, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to post them here. I've tried the attachment icon but it is seeming to elude me. If anyone is willing to do so, I can send you an e-mail and pehaps you can post them for me. (I still have lots to learn about these computers.)

If you send me the pictures in an email, I might be able to figure it out. I know next to nothing about computer too but have been sucessful in the past at posting pictures.

I suspect it is not so much you, as the fact that Basic Members cannot (are not allowed) to post pictures...;)

Post it Joe, I'd like to see it too! :D

Hopefully you can get an idea of what the knife looks like from this picture.

Good score Haebbie....I had my "Evil Eye" on that
one also but I figgured it needed a trip across the pond.

 ...Thanks for dredging up this ol' thread Herbert...That is one slick fixed blade ya got there...Nice snag on a neat knife...Congrats...

Thank yo all for your comments and EEE that he allowed the knife to travel overseas.

The funny thing is, that the knife I bought is one and the same knife that Meadhall had.

Also on the blade it indicates that this was a run of 315, with mine being #104.Exactly what do I have and approximately what is its value?

Thanks

click to have a look

but it seems that Meadhall was not the seller. And ist's a pity that somebody triyed to sharpen the knife :grumpy: .

Best,
Haebbie
