What kind of folding saws do you find most useful on the trail?

I've become very attached to my Kershaw brand, which is a re-branded Bahco. It really cuts well, as does the saw on my Farmer, as someone suggested earlier. I've been disappointed in Gerber, mine doesn't cut very well at all. I've never tried a Silky, but the Bahco/Kershaw is always on me in the woods.

Sawvivor. Hands down. Very durable, very light, tightenable and replaceable blade... Just excellent and at a great price.

Mannlicher, I agree there. My axe goes out every time; my saw has only made it a dozen or so. But given its lightness and ease of carry, both outside and inside my pack, I've never regretted carrying it. It takes me alot less energy to saw through a 10" log than chop through it; my axe is damn sharp, but a Silky saw is a cutting dream. As far as its durability, the one time I've broken one, the tip snapped off, shortening it a couple inches, as I was finishing the back cut on an 8" diameter birch tree top when it pinched. I couldn't imagine ever breaking a Zubat or Fanno eve with heavy, careless use. I can't vouch for any of the folders; I have broken a folding Stihl saw with a 8 or so inch blade on some black locus in the Wenaha wilderness once...

I have a whole pile of folding saws, the favorite of which is my Silky Gomboy (med. teeth). BUT... when it comes time to pack the backpack, I usually grab one of those smaller, lightweight Fiskars that has the blade telescoping out of the end of the handle. They aren't nearly as sturdy as the Silky, but much lighter. Also, the cheap Sierra Saws you find in the department store are a real bargain. Mine is the oldest of my folding saws and it's still going strong. I think it was about seven bucks....

On winter camp-outs, I leave the folder behind and bring a folding buck saw and small axe.

Stay sharp,

If I use a folding saw, it's a Bahco Laplander. But I really don't use a saw unless I am doing a project and want a squared off section.

Laplander when I just need a small pocket saw. Trailblazer folding bucksaw for everything else. I like hatchets and axes a lot too, but for backcountry, either of the former options is a lot lighter, will do just about all the wood processing I need to do (in conjunction with a good knife) and is safer when you're a long way from help, imo.

I have not used a Silky, but I am very familiar with my Bahco and it is a very handy saw. For budget saw I have found that the Corona brand folding pruning saw to be very aggressive cutter as well.
I saw a couple over the weekend for $10 and am wishing I had got them.

Don't use a folding saw. I use a Corona pruning pull saw from HD that cuts through anything, including 10" oak. Awesome piece!
