What kind of knife

I try to go prepared for the worst no matter how long or tough the hike/walk is. I always carry my MeanStreet and a water filter. I live on the front range/Colorado Rockys and have found that I don't really need more then that. With my MeanStreet I can make shelter, bow/drill kit for fire, catch and clean fish if need be even make a bow if I find I will be stuck for a long period. So the hike doesn't really make a differance to me, I always carry the same things.

You've got the requisite skills.

I usually carry a Gerber or SOG multi-tool a well as an SOG Government Issue.

As a food or utility knife I carry a lightweight Gerber double edge fixed blade and/or the Spyderco Endura serrated.

None have ever let me down.

I always have my MT LUDT and a CRKT KISS money clip, always. If I'm laying out a rough site (think solo surveyer) I'll take my Bushman with it's 4' handle to dispatch any briars I might have to do battle with.

I ordered a swamp rat bandicoot today!! It was really a hard choice between that and the howler but that point won me over, still, I should have gotten both. :grumpy: I would like a larger knive like the camp rat but I decided the shorter coot would be carried more.

I own and am a big fan of the traditional Buck 119. I bought it for $54 CAN (about $36.75 USD, less than half the price on Buck's website) at Wal Mart. I've never heard a bad thing about these guys, except that the edge retention is so good that when they finally do need to be sharpened they take quite a bit of work.

In a few weeks I'll be carrying a bran new Dave Beck Original WSK (Wilderness Survival Knife, Formerly known as The Tracker). All others pale in comparison....:D :D
