i choose steel, because it's very durable & strong, but doesn't command the premium that manufacturers tend to charge for titanium. i also prefer the weight of steel vs. the lightness of titanium (wrap your cabezas around that!).

To answer this repeated question, I will quote myself from this very thread.

Sorry for making you repeat yourself. I'm of average intelligence at best. Drunk, dense, poor memory, the cause varies moment to moment... :(

Just my opinion, but I think voting should be open to all registered users. I believe the results would be more accurate. I'm sure there is a good reason for restricting it though.

Smith and Wesson's HRT Rescue has a folder with a "Magnesium" handle. This has to be alloyed since magnesium is inherently extremely soft.
Anyone know how this material stands up?? Should be fairly lightweight.

I prefer Titanium scales w/ inlays made of natural material. Gee, I wonder who makes knives like that? :D :D ;) ;)

Tiatanium is my favored metal in a handle. I tend to be drawn to frame locks lately so Tia is the way to go. I find the aluminum used in Microtechs is nice and does not feel cheap in any way to me. I also tend to feel that G-10 is a great material as far as functional grip is concerned.
This question is a little confusing to some. I do not like metal in my fixed blade handles. I do like it in my folders.

Titanium frame locks are what I like in a knife that I carry. Just feels so much more solid to me.

I'll vote for steel, though Ti is a really close second. Steel handles can be made very thin and still be super-strong. They also don't seem to scratch as easily and are relatively inexpensive. Aluminum is ok if it has a good coating.

Brass bolsters and liners look great to me. I like copper a lot too, but I wonder why you don't see it much in knife handles... is it just too soft?

My favorite handle materials are bone, horn, and wood. I've really lost interest in G-10, but I like Micarta. Zytel (FRN) has its place as well.

For a folder, it's got to be metal. Aluminum, Ti, or stainless. Can't stand folders with glorified plastic scales.

For a fixed blade, I like micarta.

i love my BM940 but i should admit that first "feeling" with the Al handle was a bit disturbing, a bit like touching a pumice stone...
Now it's ok.
Did anybody had same feeling, first touching a new BM940 ?

I think magnesium is supposed to burn in contact of oxigen, is'nt it?

Magnesium burns oxygen only if ignited or it has to be pure magnesium in big concentration... :D

Steel handles, whatever it can be, are usually too slick (and painful to use in cold weather) to my taste, and Aluminium just don't have enough mechanical strength compared to any other steel, so I think it's okay only for small knife you won't use too hard (unless you have dual integral steel liners of course).

I definitely prefer micarta or G10 for hard users, and "natural" wood or stag for gentlemen's knives.

Xavier.
