I need to know what kind of metal to use, where to get it & how expensive it is. I've used some crappy steel i got from the hardware store and made some pretty nice knives, but they were kinda flimsy.
See the "Sticky Threads" sticky thread at the top of the sub-forum page.
Hardware store steel generally won't make a real knife as it doesn't have enough carbon to harden properly.
Sorry to waste more time, but i looked all through the sticky couldn't find where to get the metal. I've heard that lawnmower blades work, i just don't know were to get any metal like that.
Hey k-bar, just jump on Google and type in knife making supply. You'll find lots.
Alpha knife supply is one, njsteelbarron.com is another, specifically for steel.
Use 1080,1084, or something close to that. Not 1079.
Buy it thin, less than 1/4 inch...1/8 inch max.
