What kind of music do you listen to?

I'm fairly heavy back into electronica, of late, which I'm sure a good 90% of you wouldn't even really consider "music." :D

But, my taste runs the gamut from Marty Robbins to Massive Attack.

For a while I told people I'd listen to "everything but Country" until I realized there was a lot of Country--especially the older, more folk ballad stuff--that I really liked.

So, out of curiosity, what kind of music are you listening to now? Any artists you're really impressed with?

Who or what turned you on to those artists, or that genre?

I listen to alternative and indie rock mostly. Radiohead is my all time favorite band. I've also been listening to a lot of Animal Collective lately. A great band to check out for someone who's into that type of music.

Always a knotty question for me, since I listen to a lot of "roots" guys few have heard of.
I pick and grin a bit as well, currently doing mostly-bluesy tunes on my various cigar-box instruments. Getting fairly handy with the slide...

Anyway, favorites include:
Mark Knopfler
Guy Clark
James McMurtry
Tom Russell
Dave Alvin
Sam Bush
Mostly singer-songwriter types.

I listen to a variety of stuff. Lately my playlist has included everything from 1920's jazz songs, European EBM, noise, Baroque dances, Slim Whitman, and gamelan.

I've pretty much been listening to rock since almost everything on country radio sucks now days.

All those guys, plus most fifties-era country singers and early blues players. And a fair amount of Celtic music, including my wife's band.

Rock/popular music from the '60s, '70s, and a little from the '80s.
Favorite artists:

The Beatles
The Moody Blues
Steely Dan
The Doors
Pink Floyd
Boz Scaggs
Spirit

Used to be really big into underground hiphop, as well as Japanese music. Shiina Ringo was one of my favorites.

Nowadays, I'm listening to a lot of Rufus Wainwright, Zero 7, Daft Punk, and, of course, Bohemian Rhapsody.

Bit of a musical mongrel in my tastes. Really depends on my mood. My tunes range from medieval Gregorian chants to Santana to Nelly (I'm messed up, I admit :p)

However, the constants have always been:

Nat King Cole
James Taylor
John Denver (when he died back in '97, now that really tore me up! Its a bit funny that I don't feel joining in all the grief floating around MJ.)

EDIT:
Oh yeah, 80's new wave rules! Fond memories of the Lotus Eaters, China Crisis, etc.

There are sooo many great ones out there. Too many to list everything i really like here. As a stand in, this is a bakers dozen of my absolute favorites, in no order.
Tom Waits
Maria Mckee
Jeff Buckley
Beth Hart
Loreena Mckennitt
Jimmy Buffett
ZZTop
Huevos Rancheros
Poe
John Mellencamp
Chris Cornell/Soundgarden
The White Stripes/Other Jack White projects
The Police/Sting

Classic rock:
Tom Petty, Fleetwood Mac, Lynard Sknyrd, Genesis, Pink Floyd...

And more mellow sing-and-play-the-guitar stuff, like:
Leonard Cohen, Neil Young, Jim Croce, John Denver.

The Eagles is about as Country as I can stand, but I do like Johnny Cash.

Music is one of my passions in life.

I'm passionate about metal. Iron Maiden, Opeth, Candlemass, Solitude Aeturnus, Metallica, Daylight Dies, My Dying Bride, Lamb of God... the list goes on.

I love classical, especially Baroque era stuff. I've played classical violin for 20 years.

I love bluegrass, old jazz, old blues, Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson.

But I passionately dislike country, all of it, I can't stand the vocals, the twang and the irritating subject matter. I hate rap and 90% of electronica/techno... if you write your own techno, fine, but I find no redeeming quality in sampling and "remixing" other people's music.

Classic rock & some metal mostly 60s-80s. Beatles, LZ, Who, Cream, Stones, Jimi, VH w/ David, Metallica, Megadeth, Sabbath, etc

I also find Classical relaxing. Any of the Bach, Mozart, etc.

Been a Dave Brubaker Quartet kick lately too after hearing Take 5.

I listen to rock music of all types. Any decade: 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, & today.

I also like blues and some Jazz.

Can't stand current country (pop) music. Although I like some older country tunes.

My tastes are very broad.

YES to Merle Haggard
Sinatra to Black Sabbath
Classical to Hank Williams Sr
Jane Monheit to Popa Chubby
Stevie Ray Vaughn to Michael Buble
Gene Ammons to Alan Parsons Project
Earth Wind & Fire to Dean Martin

About the only things I don't listen to are Rap and Reggae

At this moment I have a compilation disc "Acoustic Disc: 100% Handmade Music" playing. David Grisman & Jerry Garcia are playing/singing "Stealin'".

I grew up on metal and grunge. Special place in my music library for Foo Fighters, Soundgarden, Metallica, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, the Offspring. Similar bands, the ones I grew up with.

However, I have been on a blues and bluegrass kick for the past couple years. The older the better.

Lots of stuff from the 60's and 70's including some newer groups like Simple Minds.

Favorites. Simple Minds, Pink Floyd, Mike Oldfield, Billy Thorpe, Fleetwood Mac, America, Styx, Moody Blues, Johnny Cash, and too many others.

Classical leaning toward the baroque, esp. period or authentic music groups (Europa Galant, Concerto Italiano) - Vivaldi and Telemann are probably my top two composers

Bluegrass/roots/old timey music - Been loving Old Crow Medicine Show lately

Southern Rock (was blasting Red White & Blue by Skynryd on the 4th)

70's metal (Rainbow, Sabbath)

Prog Metal (Queensryche)

Industrial (KMFDM)

I listen to a lot of late 60s/early 70s rock....Yes, Steppenwolf, The Beatles, Montrose, etc.

I also like good country....with Chris LeDoux being my favorite by far.

 A great and very under-rated band.
