What kind of steel do you prefer for "hard use knives" or beaters

Oh I love me some Sandvik. They make some lovely steel.

Which one?

I really am not sure what is meant by "hard use" or "beater" at this point, but if I'm going to bash the bejeebus outta some innocent object with a knife, I like that knife to be 5160. For a simple knife that I'm comfortable using a lot, that works well, and isn't "precious" (like an old pair of jeans) gimme AUS-8.

D2 or 154CM for smaller blades, 1095 or 5160 for big ones. I love the feel of a huge chunk of 5160 chopping up firewood!!

In my 30 some odd years of using knives it's all the same thing, imo, as long as it's a good high quality knife that has been properly heat treated steel it is a heavy beater or whatever else I need it for kinda kinda knife. I've had cheap knives that were junk and will never buy anything that doesn't have high quality steel made buy a brand name manufacture anymore. Any quality steel will work.

I'm a few years behind on the latest and greatest but on the one's I have used in the field I really like D2 and BG42. The first from Dozier and the last from Reeve.

I appreciate the information about knives and told us its advantage and disadvantage. I like it and I want to share my choice .I prefer hard knife because it is strong and not break quickly.
