What kinds of knives, multi-tools and flashligts are in your vehicle?.

Somebody needs to introduce Mr. Paratrooper to a few Surefires! :D

My daily carry in the vehicle includes a Streamlight Stinger, a well stocked Trauma/cardiac kit, a medium sized roadside emergency kit, a small toolbox packed full of tools, duct tape, ect. , and I carry a spare radiator hose, and belts, along with 2 packs of MRE's, and a gallon of distilled water.

May seem like overkill, but there are times where I have used every item I carry, and I'm anal about being prepared at all times for whatever may come up.

I also have the usual SOG PowerLock, and Surefire E2 HA on my person, along with an Emerson CQC-7A as my EDC gear.

Filipino cane knife
Swiss Champ
Bundeswehr hatchet in black leather cover
Bundeswehr pickmattock in green leather cover
Mini Maglite (the one that uses two AA cells)

I leave all of the good stuff home.

I guess the reason I hit so hard on the flashlight issue is, in my job, a flashlight can mean the difference between life and death.

Even on dayshift, my Streamlight Stinger is on my dutybelt. I can't count the number of times that I have gone from bright daylight to absolute pitch black in under a couple of minutes or so.

I appreciate quality, well-made products. If I have to pay for that, I will.

For those of you that keep a light handy for emergency use of any kind, PLEASE make sure that the light you choose is actually up to the job! Don't risk the welfare of your family on a light that won't perform.

There have been several posts that mentioned the Surefires. What is the price range? It looks like I'm going to have to buy one of these.

Surefire, price range runs from $30 (for a G2 if you can find one on sale) to about... er... sky's the limit. :)

But seriously, for normal day-to-day use, you might be well-served with a $100 or so rechargable system. I haven't researched those much, so you might want to try looking around places like CandlePowerForums.

If you don't use your light for hours a night, you might want to look at getting an E2e. Very compact, very bright for such a small light. I like shining mine in music concerts, people think it's a spotlight. An E2e-HA (hard anodized, pretty tough) will cost about $70. There's a passaround going on, too bad you didn't get in on it in time (wow, that was 4 prepositions in a row). I love mine dearly, and would buy one again in an instant if I lost it (the light).

I have a mini Maglite, an old Victorinox SAK I bought in 1986, and my geologist hammer in the trunk!

In the car - Gerber MultiPler I've had forever, old Endura I've had forever, Ka-Bar I've had forever (leather handle & sheath soaked in brake fluid), Mag-Lite I've had forever; forever meaning longer than Ive had the car. On keychain - SwissChamp and ASP Sapphire. On me - new Delica and Endura, and SureFire 6p I've REALLY had forever: It says 'Laser Products'!

I'm aware of the SUREFIRE line of lights....to some degree. When they first came out, they were designed to be used when shooting firearms at night.

I'm sure by now, they have many new models available. But...from what I knew back when, in order to recharge the batteries, you had to remove them from the light itself. And...they didn't have a particularly handy charger. And...the light bezel was non-adjustable.

Unless they have changed significantly, they were not as "handy" as the Streamlight Stinger.

I STILL say the STREAMLIGHT STINGER and it's siblings are the best!
