What knife could you have bought but didn't and regret it?

A GEC Northfield #23 Pioneer Prototype linerlock in Spiral Buffalo Horn. Had it in the Shopping cart more than once - never pulled the trigger.

Wish I had .

Not a knife, but a few years back a guy at the swap meet was selling a plumb saddle cruiser ( double bit hatchet ) for 30$. At the time I thought that he was crazy, but now know that it was probably well worth every penny. If I thought I legitimately had a need for a saddle cruiser I probably would've bought it,but still probably would've had to talk him down first as it need a new handle and some work.

I try not to think about all the knives I could have bought in Sheffield back in the 1970's! :D

Any good Camillus folder before they went out out business. I own a couple and they are fine knives.

I can't think of a single knife that I had the opportunity or interest at the time to buy, and didn't, that I now regret not having bought. To the contrary, there are many where I did not resist the impulse to buy, that I wish I had passed on.

I don't know if I really regret not buying any particular knife. I've always had a valid reason for passing, whether it was insufficient funds, something else caught my eye, etc., but for the sake of the thread I wish I had made more of an effort to get ahold of one of the 2 blade 85s from the last run. The matchstrike nail nick on the coping just really turned me off at the time(and still does if I'm being honest). The '14 forum knife and single blade 15s in clip or spear and ebony are also knives I wish I had made a little more effort in acquiring. Really any knife in my sig line, too, because more than likely they were all available somewhere when I first started to get into traditionals back when even the popular knives stayed on the shelves for a little while.

Was offered a single tc barlow spear long pull with sawcut handles . He was asking 100 more than the orginal retail price . Haven't seen one go that low yet. There's quite a few others that I'd buy now if I could get them for their original price . My taste change and evolve the longer I collect .

I had the chance to get a custom Tony Bose fixed Zulu from Vincent. I couldn't afford it at the time, and didn't want to make Vincent wait for $. He offered to work with me, I should have taken him up on the offer. Custom Tony blade, someone else put the scales on etc., but it would have been my one and probably only, custom Tony Bose knife.

I also had the chance to get a Hiroki Ohta Remington 1306 slipjoint. I didn't have the money on hand in total, and if I did, it would have been the most expensive slipjoint I would have owned, at that point.

I wish I would've stayed on Randall's waiting list, I had a couple design ideas for a Randall, but the whole reason I got into knife collecting on a larger scale? Scott Gossman saw me on Bladeforums asking about Randall knives, and he said to come meet him at a local gun show. That started a friendship I hold dear and I enjoy the friendships I've made in the bushcraft community through Scott.

Speaking of Scott, he made two Goloks, and I had the chance to buy one of them, from the owner. I couldn't swing that one either (pun intended).

As others have mentioned I don't really regret passing on any, yet there is one. I was new to the forum and had no idea what I was looking at. At the time anything over $100 was a crazy amount. I passed on a Queen Barlow Forums knife for $115. I've only seen one more for sale since.

Another was a 2010 Red Stag Northfield 72 serialized #10. It went way above my $250 bid. Closest knife I have to a grail that I haven't obtained.

I regret selling some custom for half of what i paid, latsr went on and saw them sold for tbree times what i paid on other websites.

I mainly regret selling at a loss.

Wish i WOULD have bought some rare GEC .

I would say there are two that I currently regret not scooping up. The 2016 forum knife was still available when I joined and I was ever so close to buying it. However, with it so close to Christmas, I chose to put that money towards gifts for the family instead.

The second one that I am currently kicking myself for is the Mudbug. The sodbuster style is one I wanted to try out this month but some unexpected travel expenses cut into the knife budget. I will probably scoop up a cheap Rough Rider version, just to experience the pattern at least.
You should try to pick up one of the new Bull Nose #71's that are coming out. Very practical size when compared to the larger #21 that the Mudbug is made on. Also very reasonably priced. They are one of GEC's best values in a traditional knife.

That is a really good idea, thank you for the suggestion. Looking at the options now.

TC Ancient Barlow and 77 spear in natural micarta. Was on the reserve list for both before they closed, the Ancient Barlow I decided against at that time because of other purchases, the 77 ,I ordered 2 other variants, one of which I wasn't in love with and sold.
