What knife did you not expect to like?

I assume you are talking about the Garberg. It was the all hard plastic grip that I really didnt like as well as the plastic sheath wouldnt keep the knife in. I realized however putting a little tape intide the sheath made the retention 100% and the lack of Kansbol style rubber was actually far more durable and comfortable when using the knife for a while. Mine has since been convexed and is really a great blade. The steel is soft and very stainless which I have come to really enjoy using outdoors.

I had the same issue and like you said I just put duct tape on each side inside and it has worked great the last 3-4 years
 
I don't buy knives I don't expect to like. But my son gave me a knife that I would not have purchased myself because the design isn't what I normally seek out, a SOG ULTRA XR, and it surprised me. A thin carbon fiber handle with no metal reinforcement, S 35VN blade and a crossbar lock. As one would expect, the handle flexes in the hand a bit. But I've used it quite a bit, and it has turned out to be a very capable tool for everyday carry, and I find myslf liking it..

Somebody recommended here and I figured it would disappoint. I still don’t know exactly what the “proprietary” blade steel is but it really does a good job and I use it almost daily. No problems keeping it sharp and it’s never went dull on me. No chipped. It opens and closes fantastically. Absolutely amazing for the price and it feels like it’ll probably last as long as I need it to.

I looked in Larrin's book The Story Of Knife Steel
Yes it is a bit viegue what it is but he does discuss it on page 461
~ = likely performs like < 0.5% Vanadium powder metallurgy stainless ~ like Carpenter's 40CP and Crucible's CPM -154 though somewhat lower carbon (0.9 vs 1.05%) but has lower wear resistance .
 
Lever-lock autos, generally. Old ones, specifically. Figured they were chunky, clunky, rattling vestiges of days gone by. Turns out I love ‘em. Most are well built out of nice metal - no plastic, anywhere. They clean up great with simple tools and patience. Lots of hand detail that modern CNC makes look boring and impersonal. Not very popular and bargains to be found you’ll never see chasing Strider and CRK.

I've looked at that one a couple of times. I can't tell if it's a standard crossbar lock or if it's like their older arc lock. Is it the older arc sort of curved locking? If so I have a burning need. I loved that lock.

When they arrived I liked the Leek a lot more than my Shallot and would have traded with her had the Leek not been pink colored. 🤷🏼‍♂️😂 The Kershaw Leek has since been one of my favorite knives of all time and I have around 20 different ones in my collection now.

The Leek is a great deal! Is there any other American made knife at that price that even comes close to the quality of the Leek?
