What knife did you use for Christmas morning package duty?

My "old faithful" wharncliff copperlock got me through another season of gift opening. I did let my seven year old keep my SAK in his pocket during one gift exchange last night. He made sure everybody knew that he had a knife with some scissors if they need to use it.

I got great use out of my Old Timer middleman jack for helping the kids open packages, but also ended up putting a few various SAKs and Leatherman multis (Wave, Micra AND a Squirt P4 LOL) into service at various times assembling stuff, putting in batteries, etc.

Funny story: Living here in Europe and being married to a Czech gal, our kids, who are 4 and 2, have the great advantage of getting some gifts on Christmas Eve from Jezisek (baby Jesus) and then a few more on Christmas morning from Santa Claus (ahh, the "burden" of having an American father). At any rate, this makes for some complicated planning on the part of my wife and I, making all this magic happen. At one point, I was trying to slip away to get down to our cellar -- which is accessed from the parking garage where we keep our car -- to get the presents from Jezisek. My daughter walked by the hallway where I was putting on my shoes to go out and asked me where I was going. Quick thinking on my part .......... "I have to go to the car, I can't find my knife," I said, patting my pocket, "and I think it fell out in the car." That satisfied her perfectly and she went about her business. So after all these many years of faithfully carrying one, it's still possible to find other uses for man's handiest too, the knife.

Later that evening, I'm happy to say, Jezisek made an appearance and brought the kids a wonderful bounty of goodies. Santa did a great job too.

I used a Case Canoe with the arrowhead sheild and Jade green in color. Then I returned it to its place in my knife box.

I've been carrying my Schrade 194OT. I bought this knife from a guy who has really scratched up the blades so I spent several hours working away trying to restore it as best that I could ( I really don't have any kind of machine tools, so all is by hand). Well blades are still a mess but I was able to put a darn right frightful hair flicking edge on it. Those old Schrades with carbon blades really get sharp. On Christmas day we sealed the counter tops in the kitchen, Used some joint compound to fill in some small holes in walls and stained and varnished some new kitchen cabinets doors. The OT had a part in all the the activities.

My Daughter is five and I had to deal with the Littlest Pet Shop also. I used a pair side cutters, Ray Kirk Scagel and a Black Palm Mnandi. The Ray Kirk Scagel did most of the work. Larry

That black handle is a smooth customer:thumbup:

Didn't use ANY knives, I just like to rip it up every so often:D

Larry M., that Scagel by Ray Kirk is a nice one! I've seen quite a few Scagel repros and custom made Scagel repros lately and I've yet to see one I didn't like. The Scagel's look like they are built to hold up to extreme use!

I ended up using my new large Classic Sebenza w/snakewood inserts and my Protech Runt 2 I received from my son. Both handled their duties without problem!

This Schatt is the recent "coffee table" knife... so she got volunteered! Nice old stag she takes & holds a great edge.

My two month old Queen Classic 1095 Canoe - reprofiled last weekend on the coarse stone that he bought me for Christmas, then "dialed in" with the soft and hard Arkansas that he also got me. I got him a Boker Subcom from the same knife store, so we're even.

I use mutiblades to cut paper when I am wrapping and unwrapping and get more of a kick cutting the wrapping paper quickly and easily while wrapping gifts.

This year a Todd Davidson and a Richard Rogers saw gift work duties after a light sharpening.

A Carson lockback did some heavier duty cutting on a couple of other gifts I gave dad that had that thick plastic packaging.

I mixed it up, with a SAK, a Browning Ice Storm (in Burgundy, so nice & Christmassey), my new carbon fibre William Henry Legacy, bought for my birthday by my lovely wife, and one of my Bulldog Whittlers.

I used the small blade on my Vic Executive for tape and some cardboard. I also used the sissors on my Vic Spirit for those peskie zip ties on the toys!

Camillus Carbon Series Stockman. Now I need to hit the sheepsfoot with the stone. My grandfather used it too, since due to a mixup his usual keyring SAK was at my house.

Great thread!

I was at my Bro's house so I opened a lot of toys for his kids; they use a lot of wire and zipties these days. I used my fairly new Case 62032 CV/amber bone.
In my family I am the only knifenut so I am a go to guy on Christmas morning.
