What Knife Do I Need Next?

First the basics:

1) Has to be a practical EDC, I typically carry one or maybe two knives on me (always one though!), I'm an attorney and spend 99% of my days in a business casual office (I wear jeans most days). No 'sheeple' issue, but let's be realistic, I'm not going to carry a fixed blade on my belt in the office!

2) Purpose is for general use, with self defense a distant second. I carry a sidearm daily (I have a license, don't worry... it's Texas after all) so the knife for defense is a distant second need.

3) Has to be modern, traditional folders and anything that doesn't lock open doesn't interest me. Nothing against traditionals, that just isn't my taste.

4) No smaller than 3" (roughly).

5) Manual, AO, auto are all fine (autos are legal to carry here).

6) Budget is <=$150 or so.

Currently, my collection (I'm relatively new to knives and just joined the forum, I am branching out from guns lately) consists of:
-Endura Wave
-Resilience
-Cryo
-Thermite
-Blur combo edge
-Shallot plain edge
-Boker AK auto

since you like spyderco : has to be Brad Southard, if you look enough or make a trade, you can work within budget, great knife and if you look to p/u a used one even would fit great.

I do like Spyderco and have looked at the Southard online but have never seen one in person and they always seem to be a decent chunk of change ($250 easy), does the flipper open as easily as the other Spydercos with just the hole?

Oddly, in spite of living in one of the biggest cities in the country, there is only one dedicated knife store in the metro area, and their prices are laughable.

GEC #15 TC Barlow (AKA Charlow)
Pair that with a Victorinox Cadet and you have a fantastic suit EDC.

Pacific Salt fully serrated. At 3 oz., every one should have one of these.

Spyderco Caly 3 or 3.5 in Carbon Fiber/ZDP-189.
Sage 1 or 2.
Benchmade Mini Ritter Griptilian.
Since it doesn't really need to be dressy looking have you thought about the Spyderco Paramilitary 2?

I can come up with more if none of these catch your eye.

All excellent options, except the RITTER grip, that's FUGLY as sin...

Ajack60 is right on. I love Caly3's and 3.5's (these in ZDP-189 or Super Blue steel) and titanium slabbed Sage2's. Wonderful.
...and BladeChick is perfect with her reco of a Paramilitary 2. No better folder available, and easily within your price range.
Win one more case and get a Sebenza, large or small depending on your hand-size. You'll be set for life.

Spydero Sage 4
Right at your 3", $150 range and the ironwood scales add a touch of class in a professional atmosphere.

regarding question on southard, owning nearly 200 spydercos, I consider only several totaliy off the norm. Southard is one of them. And only one you will find meeting your budget, sad that knives cost so much !
Brad is a master, if he produced and sold dog waste, I would order it, on a secondary market, why because he is again a master, and you do not obtain 1000's of knives without a clear cut budget and a price point PER knife, set BEFORE you decide to start looking. Some knives have taken years to get, yet NO single knife , I am aware of, do I not have. That requires valueing no knife ( not gifted or given) of anything but currency. I have traded many many grails, because knives are just metal, and they must always for ME be viewed that way. I stand that no one person can own anything that produces the affets, effects, benefits, and distruction a knife can bring. P.S. the southard is the smoothest, of the smooth. like holding water, and peeing fire..

I've had good luck with the Benchmade 940 (can't really imagine a better edc), and they can occasionally be found for under $150.

Manix2 (especially a sprint run if you can find it), Gayle Bradley, Caly 3.5 CF/ZDP-189, PM2.

I guess I will be the lone dissenter here, I would pick up a ZT 801, if you shop around can be found at $10 north of your budget, I think it's a 3.25" blade however, but it's a classy both scales Ti folder with the KVT bearing system. If you like it as much as I do you can send it to Maprik here on the forums. to be anodized. 801 Blue.jpg
Great steel and Classy!
