What knife do you pack when you travel by plane?

I wouldn't worry too much. I had probably about $500 worth of knives in my luggage at some point, which was nothing in comparison to the $2000 camera equipment (putting that in you hand luggage can be a major issue as well). I am mostly worried about lost luggage, but not very much about theft. Btw. you can always drill a couple of holes in the lock and lock them with zip ties. That is legal, and nobody other than the homeland security will touch them. And I trust them not to steal anything.

When i pack i take nothing it`s a strange feeling to get to where your going and be without. 2 days and no knive i got to thinking if knives in checked luggage seem to be not that much of a problem how about some kind of a lock box in a suit case for carrying custom blades or expensive knives may be worth checking out how do custom makers get by any body know

Nope. TSA can, and will, break into it or confiscate it as a whole if they can't. In fact, I suspect that a locked box would only draw suspecion. I mean think about it: what they are primarily looking for is bombs. A locked box could easily contain a bomb.

You can ask to have the box inspected, lock it, and then put it into your suitcase if you want to. But they have to be able to inspect it at some point.

Good point i point i asked to be present at the inspection but was not allowed thats the strange part but if they xray the luggage they would clearly see the box and it`s contents.Mailing them sounds good but for some strange reason my stuff always gets physically checked especially knives they get helled up by some one deeming them as dangerous then i get some letter stating i should pay import tax can`t win
