What knife do you take in the bush?

I consistently find myself bringing and using my ESEE Junglas the most. I also bring a ESEE3mil or my leatherman surge but I don't use them nearly as much.

almost always the fallkniven F1. big enough to get everything done, but small enough to stay out of the way.

Fallkniven volcano and Juni, cold steel outdoorsman and buck 110 for back up and roselli axe. Any and all bases covered well with this assortment

I take a rat 5 in the bush, I also have a custom Daryl Hibben bush knife. I know Daryl and he made this knife for me and my needs. It is the best knife I have 10 inches overall micarta handle and it weights about a pound.

My Ontario SP10 Marine Raider, its not pretty but it's paid for.

No shame in that blade. Obviously it must work well by it's beautiful broken in look.

I am sad that you have never gone in the bush. You'll have your virgin bushwhacking one day. In the mean time practice, practice, practice. And always keep our blade oiled. Just don't drink too many beers first. Beer blade, you know.

My Condor Boomslang or Pack Golok work nicely. And a Mora Robust. And whatever folder finds it's way, usually a CS Spartan. And a Vic Farmer ALOX. I sometimes go without the Condor if it's too heavy, and just bring my old KABAR. That baby could take the place of all the others in a pinch with how much I've used it.

14.5" Bolo knife on my back, J.Martinni leuku or KaBar USMC on my belt, HEST 2.0 folder in my pocket.

A 2hawks Longhunter, Cold Steel Hudson Bay and a SAK of some flavor

If by bush you mean literally in the middle of nowhere with no hope of getting out until a future pre-arranged helicopter pickup or similar scenario --- I carried a Glock M81 field knife (have had it for 30 years now) and a machete (I picked up in Laos 20+ years ago) in places even off the beaten path in places like Papua New Guinea and other sundry garden spots. They both served me extremely well, and I trusted them. They earned that trust.

If I'm in the woods around here, hiking or camping, I just take my Vicrorinox, Ahti, and possibly also a Mora.

There are different approaches to backcountry travel. Suggest expanding your reading for skills to include Chris Townsend, Colin Fletcher, Harvey Manning and Ray Jardine. If these names are not known to you, google, dig and read.

For ultra-lite hiking all I carry is a Leatherman PS4 Squirt.

For normal backing I add an Opinel N9.

If I'm on a winter ski tour and carrying a folding wood stove, I'll carry a folding saw and 4" to 5" fixed blade.

I've brought this with me every time since I've got it(I've strolled through the jungly bush about 4 times since) My H.I Gelbu special.

seems overkill due to the fact I'm in Florida and everything is usually soft and green. Great path clearer and chopper

Before I retired from the Army, my field knife was a fixed blade Busse Steel heart and I would always carry my Strider GB folder. Occasionally I'd carry my Swamp Rat Ratchet as well, until an E-8 borrowed it to chop up a 55 gallon drum. I was not happy when it was returned all chipped.

Vic OHT or Farmer, Fallkniven F1, Fiskars X7 hatchet. Sometimes I'll get a little crazy, and sub out the F1 for a Bahco Laplander.

If for a part of a day and I'm not hunting it'll be a Victorinox Farmer and an Ahti Tikka. If I'm hunting a custom made Mayo skinner.

Like was mentioned, it depends on approach. Truly backpacking for distances. A small leather man (especially if I have a stove other than my little home made alky burners) and a Mora or a sak. If I am packing into a camp where I will base hike and have more luxury, I like a bravo 1 or one of a local maker's camp knives. If we are horseback and maybe hunting or I might be called to help with getting an animal out, my vanguard is added to the above.

If on horse back when I go, there is always a quick opener in with a hip or chap pocket for emergencies. Something like the zt 561 or rift in addition to whatever belt knife might or might not be there.

I also include a Sven saw if I plan on fires. Chopping might be fun, but it is not at all efficient.

Car camping, I might pile everything in just because I want to mess with it. I rarely ever car camp though unless I am with others that insist on it. Cars and phones are two of the things I leave behind.

Usually a Kabar Remora and a Victorinox of some sort. I just got a used Trekker, so that ones following me up the mountain tomorrow. If I'm doing some woodwork I will carry a Case Stockman and a Victorinox Pioneer. If I'm going ultra-light, a Buck Smidgen and a Victorinox Classic.
