Out of all of your knives, which one gets the most use, daily?
During the day it's gotta be my RFP blade. Either my Spydie Calypso or CRKT Kasper. At home it's my Dozier Companion.
You?

Spydie Endura and Leatherman Wave...but mostly the Spydie...

Kershaw Scallion. I usually carry three knives, but the smallest one does most of the work. Don't have a multi-tool; I usually have my toolbag with me.

but it is...wait for it...a TNT!! I have a small wharny {actually somewhat of a hawkbill} that I use MANY times daily. It resides in a sheath on my neck with a photon II.

...as a 'hands on' field engineer/technician/installer/grunt for a large defense contractor, I too have tool bags...a small personal bag, a larger travelling case, and being that I have a nearly unlimited tool/lab equipment purchasing budget/authority, some well stocked 'roll-arounds'...we have some pretty cool 'stuff' ;)

I'm a frugal Scots-Irish bastid, so we don't buy a lot of 'funky' expensive tools, but we do buy a ton of good quality tools, and I do a mental 'price vs. value' evaluation of each purchase, and compromise where possible to maximize the value of our purchases.

(Being a 12 year employee of an employee owned company will do that to ya...lol)

So, I know hand tools, I think... ;)

That being said, ya just can't beat a good multi-tool! I only wear mine at work, (that's the only place I wear pants and/or a belt, so that makes sense..lol).

I'd suggest that you buy a smaller high quality tool and carry it with you daily for a bit...you may end up wondering how you ever got by without it!

If you like it, you can always upgrade. I did.

p.s. Gotta love that Scallion!

Mel,

I've actually been thinking about it. I carried my father's around for a while, but I just got so used to reaching into my bag when I needed something screwed, snipped, tied, or drilled that I never bothered with it. It was just extra weight on my belt.

But your post made me think, "what's more cumbersome, your 14 lb. bag or a multitool that's in the ounce range?" And I usually find myself just using my drill and wirecutters out of the gaggle of tools in that dingy bag most of time anyway.

I'll give it some thought. A nice little "tester" multitool might follow the BC Chive and BC Scallion, but before the Boa...or the 710...or the Chinook...or that cool TOPS folder...

Ack, I gotta stop coming to this forum.

Small Sebenza and V-nox Pocket Pal/Secretary. The V-nox gets used the most for daily cutting.

Without a doubt the knife that I use the most is my neck knife from Mike Snody. It is small and easy to does about everything that I need a utility knife to do.

...I've had and sold 3 necks knives so far. I love the concept, and I'm kind of a large dude with a thick neck...but I could never get the damn thing into play...

Buttons got in the way with my button up work shirts, and off-work tee's always seemed to hang it up....so, how do you access yours, while avoiding the problems I had?

AZ, welcome to the dark side... ;)

Thanks for the welcome, Melvin. I like what I see of the dark side, except for the ritual sacrifices...

Also want to mention the big knife use when the Scallion won't "cut it" (haw haw haw!): the Timberline Wortac. I use it at the warehouse for chopping up abused boxes and (gulp) prying wayward nails out of skids. We got the Christmas tree today, and I used it to do some on-site trimming and to cut the clothesline we used to tie it to the roof. The handle shape makes for good purchase on odd strokes.

So I guess I really use two knives a lot.

CRKT Mirage Grey Ghost, wharncliff blade. A very good, and quite cheap, little knife that gets used a lot.

recently w/the cold weather amd me wearing sweats the #1 title goes to, well my gunting w/skunkworks sheath, works great w/sweats, works great as an EDC and a self defense blade - and some say the gunt is 1 dimensional.............

During the work day I find a lot of use for my old standard leatherman. That little phillips head is perfect for a lot of what I do. In my line of work I use a Klein splicing kit and that stuff (electrician's scissors/cable knife) is so convenient to just grab when I need to cut something, I have to make a conscious effort to grab my yellow handle Case stockman once in a while.
