what knife for each branch of service

I think that knife rule came about in the 60's and 70's. I remember back in the bad old days in the early 80's long after the Army went all volunteer that there were still a fairly high number of miscreants in the ranks. I saw one E-sh*t get up in my buddy's face as a bar in Germany when I was visitng him. Don't remember why, but suffice to say that my friend was the Battalion S-5. I heard stories later about officers in the late 70's not wanting to go into certain barracks without escorts. That kind of BS ended eventually with the build up in the Reagan years so i never saw anything like that in my short time on active dutyin the late 80's, but in 10 years we went from every Marine sleeping with his rifle to having to lock up your Randall in the arms room along with your personal firearms....sheesh.

The most common knife was the little Army silver metal handled "boy scout" type knife.

Those are made by camilus (sp?) Most commonly the camp knife patern. My brother hase one with stainless handle with a waffle patern and U S cut through the scale.

As for dress knife for the armed forces id say match it to their fixxed blade knife and embelish it a bit ad the branch insignia so its very visable on both the handle and on the scabard. Think the kabar USMC knife with the marine core insignia on the pummle and on the scabard. Maybe if that was the choosen patern embelish the handle with gold rings inside the grooves in the handle.

In WWII ka-Bar made knives marked for each branch. The air force 1950-1984 pilot knife is still made by camillus. A lot of the Army guys carried Randall model 1 SOG type knives.

ive done the kabar thing but wanted to try out something different the other pictures are "good start to the new year" thread

When I was in the Navy, way back when Noah sailed, it seems that everyone carried a Buck 110 in a belt pouch. The ships stores around the fleet must've sold thousands of these. No knives were ever issued to the regular black shoe, bubblehead (submarines) and airdale Navy. Don't know anything about the Seabees, UDT or SEAL teams.

There was an ugly prybar of a knife that the UDT guys carried at some point. I'mnot sure if the SEAL tams officiallyadopted the SOGknife, but they did do some tests backin the early 90's

there is a new version of that pilot knife in production now

I have the PERFECT knife. It's a LETTER OPENER for the CHAIR Force!! On a serious note, the pilots I have talked to on the flightline wear mostly folders. Then again too, they are tanker pilots.:D Not into the whole look like a billy bad butt jet pilot.

I did some looking around and I found a couple of pics at this site.

I didn't see anything for the Navy there but they had the Pilot Survival knife
(which I guess you could do a version for the Navy and AF) and my personal favorite was the U.S. Army M3 knife that was issued in WWII. My granddad served under Gen. Patton and I saw one one time at one of his reunions. Just some suggestions that might help.
