What knife has the best ergos? (Folder)

I was wondering if anyone can recommend a knife for it's ergonomics. The steel isn't as important since I don't plan on using it for heavy duty tasks. It can be 8cr13mov or aus8 for all I care. I would like a knife with superior grip, g10, micarta, canvas or similar. Finger grooves, choil, jimping, thumb ramps, would be great. I want to be able to comfortably choke up on the blade. Unfortunately, it seems to me I can only find fixed blades with the ergos I'm looking for

the Ontario Rat 1 has great ergonomics for a budget knife.......feels comfortable in the hand and fits like a glove for me.

Depends on your hand. Mine aren't very large and I've never found anything that I liked better than a Spyderco Native 5.

While I've had a lot of fit and finish problems with them, Emersons have the best ergos of any knife company I'm aware of. In particular, the Commander and CQC-8 just melt into my hands with absolutely no hot spots or discomfort of any kind. If ergos are super important to you, you owe it to yourself to handle an Emerson Commander (or the Kershaw/Emerson cqc-6/7K if you have small hands).

I think you're looking for a Spyderco.
Depending on how large your hands are and what size knife you're looking for, anything from a Chaparral, Native 5, Sage, Caly 3 / Caly 3.5, or Paramilitary 2 would work very nicely.

I like the Spyderco Sage series of folders... 3" blade and FULL-size grip length of 4.2-4.3", with good S30V blade-steel.

The post above mine is Perfectly on Target. Take his advice to the bank...er..knife-shop.

Griptilian. It's not even my favorite Benchmade Axis knife, but damn it feels good in the hand.

I found that the Military's ergos were better than the para2's; also, Emersons are excellent in the ergo dept... try a cqc 13 or a commander. That said, CS's recon 1 fit my hand just fine as well. Lastly, I loved the Benchmade Rift's handle (though I did not care for the blade shape).

Another vote for the paramilitary 2. So nice, especially when you learn how to flip it open and close it in under a second!

Completely dependent on your hands. I went to grab a Manix 2 today, as on paper, it looked perfect for me; walked out with a PM2, and am already looking at grabbing another.

Night and day difference in feel, in person.

I'd definitely suggest trying before buying, if at all possible.

If I recommended one, would you buy it?

Did you ever wind up buying a fixed blade? Or a neck knife?

The best for me is Spyderco Stretch - fits like a glove. Emersons are also nice as far as I remember (I do not have any).

I like the Emersons for ergo. An older Masters of Defense folder I have is good too.

Also some of my better ZT's are pretty good....3-D machining makes that slight difference.

Funny how when you own a $500+ knife it should be on that list...but my Sebenza certainly isn't.

The best thing to do is try several in you hand and see what you like. From personal experience for a small knife you cannot beat the Spyderco Dragonfly and it comes in G10. The Delica is simply a superior knife with a slightly less than 3" blade and if you want larger the Endura is basically the same with a longer blade. The Spyderco Caly3 is a bit more expensive but is a great knife. If you want something sized between the Delica/Caly and the Dragonfly, look at the Chaparral and the Cat. The Cat is the least expensive but has all of the features you mentioned. All of these knives have, in fact, the features you mentioned. The Delica can be found with G10 if you look around.

If you want something not a Spyderco, try the Benchmade 707 Sequel, the Mini Griptilian, or Griptilian. None of these has a forward choil for choking up on the knife like the Spyderco, but they are very nice in the hand. I prefer the Spydercos.

I'll echo what the Doc says. For ergonomics it is almost impossible to beat Spyderco. I have almost all of the models he mentioned above. My to to EDC is Caly 3 in SuperBlue steel. I think of the Caly as a Delica with choil. Even though I own a few CRKs, Striders, and custom Microtechs, my Spydies are simply superior EDCs. I've said this before, but will repeat it here. Other companies make knives. Spyderco makes edged tools that are extensions of the human hand.
