Just was wondering who if any of the forumites is giving their mom a knife today....also I am curious. Does mom carry a knife? And if she does, which one?

Happy Mother's Day.

I had planned on getting her a Calypso Lightweight, but I didn't get that organized in time. Maybe for her birthday.

When they first came out, I bought Leatherman Micras for just about everyone on my Christmas list. At first, I did not get one for my mother since she has never carried a knife and I didn't think she'd like it. But, then I though it would look sort of ackward for everyone else to get one but her, so I tossed one in for her too thinking she'd just put it in a drawer somewhere, but at least feel included. Well, she loves it and carries it all the time! Every now and again she tells me some new way she used it. The little screwdriver tightens her glasses, the file is perfect for her nails, the scissors clip newspaper articles (which she then mails to her children (perhaps I've cursed myself this way)) and coupons. She's used the tweezers and the bottle opener, she even uses the blade to open packages etc. She's a Micra fan.

BTW, I think everyone I've given a Micra to loves it.

I'm with Chuck. I gave my wife a Micra and at first she thought I was out of my mind to give HER a KNIFE! Now she loves it. She tells all her friends what a great tool it is. She told my Mother how usefull it is, so then I got my Mom a Micra for Christmas. She tells me all the time how she uses it. It was a gift that I really feel good about giving them because they both really like the Micras and use the heck out of them. My wife now carries a Spyderco Rookie. And she really like it alot. Next, I want to get my Mom a nice pocket knife and a Photon.

My mom still carries the SAK I gave her years ago. She hates knives, but she sure finds the scissor quite handy..

My wife is an executive chef. Her large french knife was stolen at work, so for Mom's Day she got a new Chicago Cutlery 10" french chef's knife.

Mom isn't allowed sharp pointy things, or things that go bang for that matter. It's not so much that she has anything against them, but more that it makes the people around her nervous.

I didn't give mine a knife this time - she already carries a part serrated Spydie Ladybug on her keyring.

Mom's gone, but my wife carried a Victorinox SAK classic on Mother's day (she wasn't working). Usually she carries a slide blade disposable blade utility knife as well. She opens a lot of boxes. She doesn't carry her Micra anymore, it was too inconvenient to get the blade out. I think she needs something compact with a left-hand stud. She doesn't do well with the Spyderco hole.

Actually, Greg, my Mom carries a Spyide Ladybug I bought from you!

She also got a Micra this year that replaced teh cheap folding scissors she usually carries in her purse. She was very impressed!

Mom carries a crude shank concealed in her waistband. She traded two cartons of smokes for it. She ain't afraid to use it.

My wife claims motherhood for caring for the cats. She has weak hands and has a hard time working the locking mechanisms on most folders so, she took an old buterfly and keeps it for liberating plant cuttings and flowers from any garden she can sneak into. Now that we live in CA where such tools are dangerous weapons, I got her a CS ER1.

Mom carries a SOG Seal Pup when hiking. I have a hard time getting her to carry at any other time. She likes the Spyderco Rookie, though. I should get one for her birthday.
