What knife magazine does everyone read?

Hello EW:

I was able to order the subscription online. Thanks for the link and ph #.

I've read Knives Illustrated, Combat Knives and Tactical Knives (both issues I own were kindly donated by a fellow forumite, Markku Huttunen. Many thanks) and I like them all. I guess the reason for me reading them is the fact that I like reading anything knife-related (catalogs are big fun, too!). I don't let all the positive reviews ruin my day. If they say "The lock failed by just looking at it, but I'd still recommend this knife to anyone who wants a trusty working folder", I don't mind. If any fact is said about a knife, be it about the blade, the lock or other things, I am better off than without reading it. I have never seen Blade or Fighting Knives (and as far as I know, they don't publish that any more) and a load of other 'zines, but I would give them a try if I found any.

Two important questions in life:
Do they have a catalog?
Did you know there's a town called "Batman" in Turkey?

You are welcome, glad to help!!

Now I start to think if I should go ahead and subscribe the magazine, I actually goes out and buy every issue at the local bookstore. Wondering which way will be faster for me to get it every month??

T.K. and K.I. are the top two in my opinion. Once upon a time, Blade was the best. But every since Bruce Voyles sold the magazine to Krause publications, it has turned into a real "rag". Being a custome maker, that is where my personal interest lies, but Blade has become a magazine of whomever spends the most for advertising. The latest issue came in the mail yesterday, and for every brand or maker of a knife mentioned in an article, there is advertising for that company/individual. It has come to the point where folks like Wayne Goddard and Ed Fowler seem out of place to me, being in the magazine. By that I mean that they are both down to earth, darn nice people, with a world of knowledge about knives, and often times are articles are stuck on pages with advertisments for what I think is a bunch of junk! There, I'll climb down off my soapbox now.

TK is by far my favorite. Blade has some excellent tech stuff by Wayne Goddard,Ed Fowler and some others but the rest of the mag. is generally fluff. The writing also leaves much to be desired at times. In the most recent issue I have there`s an article on "Truck knives". It involved testing a number of knives to see which was the best to keep in your truck. HA! 3 of the knives were for all intents and purposes the same (KABARs),the results of the tests were never revealed and 2 of the knives are out of production! Why even bother? I`ll keep looking foreward to the next issue of TK. Marcus

I am very happy with Blade Mag. Great info every publication.

I also read Knives Illustrated. I see that no one mentioned Knife World. Am I the only one that subscribes to that here?

I read Tactical Knives, Combat Knives, Blade, and Some of the books on knives. I am curious if anyone has read the book by Hockeim called the "encyclopedia of knife fighting"??

Recon --

Yes, I've read the book. The author has a web site at http://www.americanknifefighters.com . It's a nice big book, with plenty of interesting information to offer, but on the down side, "Hoch" seems to have an inflated opinion of himself. He spends a lot of time at the beginning of the Encyclopedia -- and I mean a LOT of time -- telling us about his credentials and why he's a knife fighting expert. I guess you could chalk that up to simply giving us reasons why we should listen to him, but you're free to draw your own conclusions.
