I don't post here very often anymore but I was thinking the other day the same question. Mine was a Cold Steel Recon 1 Was looking for a review after I ordered it already. Hit on this place joined been here since. Recon is long gone learned a lot made a few friends so what was yours ?

Kind of funny as I was just talking to someone on Facebook about this. My first knife was a Kershaw Ener-g. My brother-in-law got it for me and I knew it was a nice knife, never bothered to research. A few years later he got my a Cold Steel AK-47 and I began researching it and found BladeForums. I just got rid of the AK last week and now my 12 or so knife collection consists entirely of KAI products. Nothing against the ZT, it was a nice knife, just not practical for me.

Spyderco Delica... kind of.

I decided to buy a knife better than my usual small SAK keychain classic or small buck pocket knife. I paid $80 bucks; I knew I was in the more serious knife world spending 80 bucks on a pocket knife. I bought a black DLC Spyderco Delica combo edge in green and with further research I quickly found out that buying knives at my local store was a HUGE rip off. I started looking at prices on on Ebay and Amazon. Soon as I realized that the prices were way cheaper on the internet, I wanted to buy another Spyderco so I didn't feel like I was a dumbass for paying $80 in the first place. I started to watch a bunch of videos on YouTube, researched, researched and researched and decided to buy my next Spydero. A Spyderco Manix 2. After researching it outside of YouTube, I found bladeforums constantly as the first couple links on Google. I found out that BF had a ton of enthusiasts with a lot of knowledge and pictures available to me. I've been on a lot of (car) forums previously so joining another forum wasn't a big deal for me.... after that, its all said and done and since 2011 i've probably obtained over 100 knives, mostly Spydercos.

I gotta give a lot of props to the BF & YouTube community. Thanks a lot guys! ..... thanks for making this hobby so fun.

When I started my knife sickness :-) You got your knowledge from people you knew or from magazines or books. Here you can get opinions good or bad if anything else nobody is holding back. I think it's helped me make some good decisions and made my wallet a lot lighter.

100% argee with everything you said. Recon 1 was also the first knife i spent any descent money on.That's back when they were like $60. Still have it. But started me of looking for even better options that lead me to this place seeing what people that used the knives i was looking at had to say about them.

I think I came here shortly after watching Nutnfancy's review of the Benchmade Mini Griptilian and buying one.

Spyderco sage. I kept stumbling across this place for years every time I googled a knife review. Would read all I could on a knife before I would commit to it. Don't know why I waited so long join, but there's a lot of knowledgeable people here. And a little Background as of my knife collection before I joined. I had a few CRKT's , and Kershaws and a few bucks. I never heard or Chris Reeves, nor did I ever think I'd spend over $50 on a pocket knife I'd use the hell out of. As of today, still no CRK, but a few spydies, BM's, ZT's, and I don't know why. I don't need anymore knives! One or 2 would last me the rest of my life, but I always want more! Wtf! If my wife knew the reason for this, she would have blocked this website.

I came here to get my hands on one of Alan Davis' wonderful
customs....

Mission accomplished, and I am still here.

Cold Steel Mini AK-47.
I started with Gerbers and asked for the Mini AK for Christmas.
It then led to me looking up all other brands.
I soon realized I was on this site reading a lot.

This is the first and only forum I'm on, and as some of you may know, I got off to a pretty rocky start.
But I've learned a whole lot on here, bought a lot, made some friends, and my addiction is growing still.
:)

Benchmade Ares, and a Spyderco Dragonfly were my first 2 decent knives. A buddy of mine suggested Spyderco, and I found this place looking them up, been here since.

My Soyderco stainless steel Endura started me but my Spyderco Sage 1 drove me here. I haven't carried the Sage in a while but it is still the first "love of my knife."

It wasn't any single knife. Sometime around 2005 I was looking for a new knife to buy. Seemed like every time I found a candidate and looked for information about it, the search lead me to BF. I lurked for about a year, then signed up.

It wasn't just one. Over a period of time I looked up reviews for various knives and machetes, and almost inevitably one of the first results was a review posted here. Eventually I figured I'd just save myself the trouble and join.

I found a kershaw junkyard dog, and didnt know anything about it. My search for info lead me here, and I just renewed my gold membership for the second year. I am here to stay. Lots of excellent people round' these parts.

It was actually losing my knife that brought me here. I had purchased a SOG Vulcan from the 'Zon because I needed a stout blade for my job at the time. I had always carried a knife so when i left that job I continued carrying it. I then lost it while helping a friend load a truck for his company. I felt naked without it so I bought a Kershaw Burst as something to tide me over. It was during my extensive research that I came accross the forums. I lurked for a while then joined after a few months.

BTW I went with a Benchmade 940. I still have it, and will likely always have it. My 6 year old loves it and would freak if I ever got rid of it.
