If you where going on a cross country trip that lasted at least a month and you were limited to either a duffel bag or back pack for your stuff what single Knife or Multitool would you take?

I would take my swiss spirit but, I'm not sure about being legal in all places with a locking blade so I'm thinking The Swiss Champ would be the ideal knife in just about every situation that might pop up.

What would you take?

Edit: misunderstood initially.

I think I would take something small, if you're within the us, you're likely allowed to carry a locking blade anywhere, as long as it's small enough... So I would take a small, light blade, and then maybe a simple multitool, maybe a leatherman of your choosing?

But it really boils down to your idea of what you'll need.

I have a locking folder, multitool, and sak in my pockets right now, and I'm on the couch going nowhere. I'd throw a sharpener in the pack and maybe a fixed blade and some other tools, totally dependent on what this trip is.

My old Leatherman PST does it for me, then again I'm no connoisseur of Multi-Tools. I actually acquired it used from a source that sold them as such. No clue were it came from, some company may have issued them to employees, or something I dunno. I have a Super Tool 300, but it's too large for me. The PST is a nice size, and still very useable.

SOG EOD Powerlock. Whichever edc blade I choose that day. Any would work. Probably wouldn't be something too high end.

I actually do think about this. I got soft saddlebags for my sportbike not long ago so that is good but before that thinking about what to carry for emergencies and roadside repairs was certainly on my mind.

Walking? Hitching?

Ya that's the idea, if you were just really packing lite and walking or maybe traveling with a large group in a van or car, what would you take to get by in any situation that may arise. Lets include Europe as well just to see what would be good for over there.

thanks

Alox Farmer. It will let you build a fire, open your beans, open your beer and cut your steak. What more can you ask? :)

wave or charge ti, along with a fixed blade on the pack, which should be 100% legal in most areas

Leathaman Wave. You keep it in the pack, in a secure and handy place, so when someone needs to fix or adjust something, you are HERO !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Vic Huntsman or Tinker, Red, universally acceptable, "it's just a Swiss Army Knife " SMKW has one with the Boy Scouts Logo on it, even more "peaceful"
