What knife or multitool would you take on a cross country trip?

I have typically carried my old Leatherman PST or my Gerber. I figure that in most jurisdictions they would be viewed as tools and not weapons. On a couple of instances I've even used my PST for a quick automotive repair that allowed our vehicle to make it back to town.

I carry a Leatherman Juice S2 most days along with my primary folder. The Juice is a bit smaller than the PST but with fewer tools. The blade in my Juice measures 2.6" so even that could be a problem if someone wanted to make it a problem.

I backpacked around Turkey in the mid 90s with only a Victorinox Adventurer. These days, I'd probably opt instead for the Huntsman with its scissors, secondary blade and corkscrew (I like wine).

And when you have that cork screw you have a place for that little eyeglass screwdriver. For me I'm always needing that for my Glasses.

I would probably put my Charge in my back pack and carry a sak like the Super Tinker, Champ Plus, Explorer or a Climber.

If you need a mini screwdriver, then I would pick a sak with a corkscrew or a MT that has it like the Charge AL. The sak mini screwdriver fits great in the Juice MT that has a corkscrew.

I wear glasses so I will make sure I have that covered by either carrying the Charge, Juice c2 or cs4, or a sak that has the corkscrew.
