What knife purchace made you realize you had an addiction?

I always had some type of knife as a kid & it wasn't until about 4 years ago the collecting 'bug' bit me! Started with cheap POS then got the bright idea to seek out a knifemaker to turn an idea I had stuck in my head for years into reality. Followed that idea up with a few more - then I was addicted to customs!:D Now the addiction is becoming larger & stronger! Miniatures, Bowies, limited editions, fancy wood handles, stag, bone, pearl, stone, different steels, different shapes, lockbacks, slipjoints, linerlocks, scrimshaw, engraving, oh where will it end?

I was what you'd call a "knife addict baby." despite the fact that my parent's don't have the bug (my dad does have 3-4, but he doesn't carry) I seem to have aquired it from birth. 8+ years in the Boy Scouts didn't help, as the knife addiction and pyromania grew together. Then I was just mostly interested in whatever knife I saw, primarily based upon "coolness" factor. Today the disease has achieved a much more advanced state, since I find myself spending $300 on plain little grey knives, and explaining with excuses such as "high QC" and "exquisite lockup"

What comes next???

My Busse Public Defender. Up until that point it was "just" nice folder from BM and Emerson. After the Busse, I caved:) Now there's no stoppin' me!

When I was 8 I used to have dreams all the time where I would find swiss army knives.
You know like an Easter Egg hunt. I'd find one behind a rock, on top of the swings, in the sand, in a drain. Eventually I would have a small pile of them and have a hard time carrying them all.
Then I would wake up and realize I only had one and be very depressed. Had these dreams all the time.

Flash forward couple decades and it would have to be a slow realization after the sixth or so 4 inch blade black tactical folder. Everytime I showed someone my new knife they would say "don't you already have one of those??"
Infuriating!
No, its similar to this one, but has a drop point and a different shaped handle and the srews are #10 torx and, and...

The buying of expensive hard use knives with exotic steels that you never intend to use is a pretty good indication as well.

The day I discovered that I was addicted was the day I discovered BladeForums.com! My collection grew exponentially and so did my knowledge. So, I guess I have Spark and all you'se guys and gals to blame!;) :D

Addiction? It´s rather a mania i belive!! When i lay my knives in a row and count them,i know for sure that i am a knife addictive. But as soon as you can pay your bills and have food on the table, you are OK!

When you can count all your knives you don't have enough, when you can't count them you have enough. When you have to catalog them you don't have enough. (read that about 3-4 times)

When I first got a folder over twenty bucks I was addicted (I was about 7 then).

send me your money money SEND me your MONEY!

:D :D :D

In my Eucharist book for first communion (most people make communion when they were much younger than 9), I thanked the Lord for metal and drew some sort of dagger or bowie beside it. So, it was while I was a nap-taking, cartoon-watching, sugar-slurping, trouble-causer that the addiction started. I don't take as many naps these days, but I now can get a jack knife without mom's permission.

When I tried to name my first born after my favorite knife makers, My wife figured it out before the papers were signed! Damn

When I bought a Camillus OVB Fisk bowie and a early 20's Case on the same day! Paul

When I started collecting boot knives and Microtech's
that I may carry, but wont use. Unless I have to.
And that probably will never happen.

I just addmitted it when I ordered a Benchmade Model 47 Balisong. I practice Japanese martial arts and justified the purchase even though the knife is Filipino because closed I can use it as a Kubaton. Even in uniform I have four blades on me. My problem is just like the one I have with guns. I am not specific, some blades just call to me.

Had to work a Saturday from hell, went to a gun/knife show afterwards and bought a Keating "Chinook" and felt a joy that I could counter things of stress with the ability to buy knives that helped me feel and work with tools to heal my rage.

Hey all,

This was mine:
