Yeah, I know. I figured after almost 300 posts and two years on BF it was my turn to pose the age-old question.

I've got somewhere in the $400-$500 range to spend. I'm look for a gent's knife, something cool/different, and obviously high quality (I'm picky). I have my share of WH and CRK stuff, but I want a change of pace. Maybe something with jigged bone or stag scales? I need something to rekindle my collecting interest. So let's hear your ideas....

P.S. There are no bad suggestions. Well OK, that's BS. Some suggestions truly suck, but I trust you guys not to give me any of those bad suggestions. :D

Mark,

With that kind of money to spend, you could buy one of the special Spyderco Delicas...I think it's what Sal is calling their 25 year Anniversary Knife, and it's a beauty.

I'd got to knifeart and list the knives according to their price.
There are some very nice pices from south-africa.
hope this helps

Go to Knifeart.com and check out the gents folders by Mel Pardue. They are fantastic. They are somewhere in the 6-800 range but are truly something to hand down to your progeny. I think someone was selling a Mel Pardue here on the forums for something like 400; it was a beautiful blade, too.

If "I" had that amount of money to spend on a knife, or knives, one of the things I would do is log on to BUCK's web site and visit Pete's Custom Knife Shop (PCKS) to build me at least 1, maybe 2 110's. With the options that are available you could end up with stag (Sambar or Elk), Water Buffalo (Smooth or patterned), Red or Brown Jigged Bone - choice of steels, 440HC, ATS-34, BG-42, or Damascus, etc. Heck, I'd order two and still have a couple hundred left over to play with....

I know the 110 is probably a little bigger than you are looking for in a "gentlemen's knife" - but I have several in my EDC rotation.

Good LUCK !!!

I´d go with a traditional slipjoint, such as a stockman, congress, whitler or trapper, for something a bit more sofisticated a sunfinsh or a doctor´s knife.

There are so many modern one bladed locking knives today that maybe a traditional is the "diferent" thing you want, and you can get a custom made in your price range with the stag or bone, or look around for an old one in mint condition.

Good suggestions, everyone. I'll mull it over, check out the suggestions, and see what happens.
