Hey everyone. So my boy is 8 this year and I want him to have a pocket knife. I had one at his age so the timing is right. What pocket knife would you recommend? I want it to be something that is decent quakiqu so he will learn to aporeappre it. When I was kid I carried buck knives and I still ironically enoyen love buck knives and appreciate them. Give me some recommendations probably stay under $75 vuxks give or take

I think a Spyderco Delica would be a good choice...……. They are pretty well suited for your requirements....

Spyderco sells a kit for the assembly of a wooden version of their Dragonfly knife, which could make for a good project for the two of you. Maybe that and their Byrd Robin 2, which is their less expensive version of the Dragonfly.

+ 1 for a Spyderco Delica. It’ll last him till he moves out, then you can get him something new and higher end. ;)

My grandson, now 9, has been given an Opinel 7, SAK Recruit, and a Marttiini Little Classic. He seems to have bonded best with the Marttiini.

Vic SAK. I got my son a Vic Explorer when he was 9. He had the knife for one whole day before he sliced his thumb open and got 4 stitches. He respects the blades. The scissors, screwdrivers and magnifying glass get the most use.

Any "Swiss army" type knife is always a good start.

Or carry on the tradition and get him a Buck.

Victorinox Farmer
I love the Farmer, it’s a great model. But the ‘snap’ on the alox blades is fairly fierce, particularly given the following:

Another vote for a Swiss Army Knife. I was intrigued by all the tools and features my Swiss Army Knife had when I was a kid.

Also should another adult ever see him with it they'd be less inclined to "freak out" compared to a modern folder. The familiarity of it thoroughly establishes it as a "tool" and less as a "weapon". I took my Swiss Army Knife to school once (5th grade I think). My teacher saw me with it. She told me to put it away and that was the end of it. Back in the 90s people weren't so easily triggered I guess. But seeing as it's 2018 a child would be lucky not to be kick out of school if they we're caught with a Delica. Perhaps a Swiss Army Knife is less threatening, even today.

Victorinox Fieldmaster. Good tool set, but not too thick for whittling. Boys LOVE the saw. Be sure to teach him safe handling.

Or the Huntsman, swapping out the Phillips for a corkscrew? :p I mean, it's good for wet knots, not just bottles of wine, erm... I'll get me coat... :D
