Hello, I am new to the forums and I was wondering what knife I should get. Let's start with my background with knifes. I have EDC'd a Buck 110 for about 3 years now and I absolutely love it. The other day I got an urge to get another knife. So, my budget is $0-40. I am on highschool money, so it can't be too expensive. I like traditional knives too, locking or not.

Welcome to BF Armadillo, for your budget, go look at the Kershaw line of knives they have. There's a good variety to choose from.

the first thing that comes to mind is you can get a kershaw leek for under 40

if you check out the dealer exchange threads here you'll be able to find nice blades in your price range... and of course theres the user exchange if you want to get more bang for your buck through buying second hand

Buck Vantage Select (420hc steel)

If you want to go REALLY cheap, friction folders are fun: Svord Peasant or a Higo No Kami

Maybe a multitool if you don't have one, a Leatherman Sidekick is in your price range, or many Victorinox offerings.

Welcome. I'd recommend getting a liner or frame lock this time around. The Kershaws are nice and the Leek is my favorite---I handle a friend's often.

Also check out the RAT 1&2, Zancudo, Avispa, Utilitac, etc....

Get a Sodbuster! Check around for the best prices.

Edited to add:
Buck Vantage Large
Ontario Rat 1 or 2
Ontario Utilitac 2
Kershaw Skyline
Kershaw Leek
Kershaw Thermite
Kershaw Cryo 1 or 2
Kershaw Strobe
Kershaw Scrambler
Spyderco Tenacious
Spydero Ambitious
Cold Steel Mini Recon 1

My first folder was actually a Spyderco Tenacious and I would highly recommend same. Great blade and I use it for everything still.

Not really traditional, but a great knife that fits your budget is an Ontario rat 1

I agree with ajack... I would specifically look at the Kershaw Volt II, and any of the Kershaw Emerson CQC knives... Depends if you want assisted opening (Volt II) or if you want the wave feature... My favorite knife (regardless of price) is my Kershaw Emerson CQC4k. It's $30 on Amazon right now.

I think you could probly find something nice at your local wal-mart i was there the other day an they had some cool knives, kershaw, buck, sog, an lots of others. You could feel them in hand an they are all in your buget.

You've got a great large locker, so.... I'd encourage to stick w/Buck and get a medium 3-bladed stockman. The 303 USA-made, or the 373 China-made. You'll find a great deal of use for those 3 varieties of blades! If not that, then a genuine Swiss Army Knife in a pattern you like.

oooohh, Like the Opinel comment... get it in Carbon steel, add a patina, and rock the old school gentleman's folder, great steel and $10 :)

of course, I stand by my Kershaw Emerson recomendation...

Thanks guys, I love when great knives are made in the USA. I will definitely look at these some more. I also like the buck 302 solitaire. What sites can I buy some opinels from. I liked the "adding a patina" part. Also, are there any nice traditional sodbusters that I could get.

Sodbuster.
Traditional, non locking but tough as nails.
check the traditional sub for the sodbuster thread

for something lighter but even more traditional, try a slipjoint. a case sodbuster or a medium jack. oh, and make sure the blade is chrome vanadium.

Cv, 1095, or if your able to save a bit, there are sodbusters with 01 tool steel.

Tenacious.

I gave my brother a brown Rat II today, as an early X-mas gift. He already LOVES it. Bought him a Skyline a few months ago, and he's become attached to it, but I don't know if I'm going to see it again now, LOL.

I'm not really a fan of the thumb holes in knives. I have heard a TON of good stuff about the RAT I and II. Maybe I will have to look into those. I still think that my heart is set on sodbusters and slipjoints.
