For a modern knife, give a Kershaw Skyline a try - USA made with a nice steel, lightweight, and a good flipper. You can find them for ~$40, usually.

It's hard to beat Kershaw's imported blades. Spyderco's tenacious/ambitious/resilience/persistence line are also nice. If you don't mind paying closer $60, then check out Spyderco Delica/Endura/Stretch line.
