Heres what I want, a one hander with metal pocket clip. No speceifc steel type, no specefic handle materail. But it MUST be able to be completely taken apart so I can clean it. Around a 4" blade. I would like to spend $50us. And a lock back not integral locking blade. Thanks, drop me a line with your ideas.

I don't know of any lock back knives which can be totally disassembled. only liner locks are easy to take apart and put back together. CRKT M-16? is 50 dollars

After I read your specifications Gunner, I immediately thought of the same knife GeneralLobster mentioned then saw his reply. This might be just the ticket for ya.
Check out the new Zytel M-16's too. I got one and it is quite easy to disassemble and well under $50.00 US.

I'm in Gunner's same position. I'm interested in the CRKT M16. I don't know a thing about CRKT products and no shop in my area carries them. Where are the knives made, US, Japan? Are they light or heavy? Are they worth $50 or would I be better off spending more?

RAH,

CRKT's knive are of excellent quality.

They are made in Taiwan with frequent inspections performed by the CRKT folks.

They are well worth the price.

Take care,

Mike

While the M16's are a great buy, if you have more money to spend there are better blades to be had out there.
Look at Spyderco's higher end stuff and REKAT's Carnivour, lots of people here like Benchmade's stuff, the BM Axis is a huge hit here. I have one and it's locking system rocks! Seek and ye shall find!

I'd also vote for a CRKT M-16. They can be taken apart fairly easily (see my writeup in the Reviews forum) but it probably voids the warranty.

Thanks for the help. I'm glad I was told about this forum. I've always been interested in knives but never got past the Swiss Army Officer's model, a plastic grip Buck knife, a tiny Gerber folder, a Gerber MKII boot knife and a plastic grip Puma. Like a fool I either lost or gave them all away. I want to start right with a mimimum investment. The CRKT M16 looks very good in pictures, but does it hold an edge? Is the M16-02 a true tanto blade or is it ground on only one side like the S&W SWAT knives? As a novice am I better off with a tanto or drop point? Lastly could I use the CRKT M16 for daily chores like peeling fruit and openning boxes or will this ruin the blade?

Why take the knife apart? Doing so will void your warranty. Furthermore, if you pick a linerlock, most of them have open backs and can be pretty thoroughly cleaned.
