What knife started the addiction and do you still have it?

I've like knives since I got my first, an sak, when a I was 7. I was 34 when I joined BF, and that's when the "obsession " began. That first knife upon joining was a Spyderco Gayle Bradley. I still have it.

The first knife I bought is the fixed blade in the picture ( the lever lock is a more recent purchase)
I had just started hunting and bought it in a Hunter Mountain NY sporting goods store. That was 50 years ago.

The Leek was the first knife I bought after joining the forum and asked for opinions about the model.

First knife: Little blue Cub Scout pocketknife

Boy Scouts: Olsen 4" fixed blade for camping.

Not really an addiction, just a life-long fascination with knives.

Made a few by stock removal back in the 1980s while working offshore.

Now own a few everyday knives, Buck folders, mostly gifts, that I wouldn't have bought for myself.

Current EDC: Leatherman Wave+.
Second or back-up ror suit wear: Hen and Rooster pen knife (looks like a pen)

My 910. Yes I still have it. I got it as a gift to myself back in 2003. Prior to that I carried a crappy SW Swat and a CRKT m16.

I have a Leatherman PST that my parents bought me when I was in scouts.. I think I was 11 at the time, so I have had it for 22 years.

Still a great tool and in great shape, but recently realized how important it was to me so I replaced it with a Free P4 to live in my truck.

I had quite a few factory knives, including a lot of Gerbers but in 1988 I bought my first custom. I was at an art exhibition in Charleston, SC and they had a venue with custom knives. I met Sam Cox and loved this piece, what a slippery slope from there. It's still here, I've owned a couple of hundred customs but this one is special.

I really like Kershaw is one of my favs

I was in the scouts and learned safe handling of knives. We whittled and made all kinds of camp stuff.

Then there was the show Mcguyver. Man! It is what made me realize I needed a knife every day.

My pops bought me my first real hunting knife in 6-7 grade. A camo Gerber LST.

Then I worked at sports authority when I was a teenager in the 90’s and needed a knife for opening boxes and stuff. I bought a Gerber EZ-Out and I was hooked. It was so quick and easy to use. I was impressed

I carried the EZ out for a good while and then the Harsey Air Ranger.
Kershaw Scallions, Chives and Leeks came out! When the Tactical Blur came out right when I was starting my career. One of those was in my pocket at work and the random leek was my at home EDC.

ZT hit the scene and I bought an 0200, and some others, which I sold a few years back and regret.

As I earned more money my journey has progressed and progressed. Topped out with a Sebenza and a Les George VECP for a while.

Ironically it started with a light weight, large, thin, pointy, tip down r/h only folder with an opening hole and now, my preferred EDC is a Spyderco Military. So I guess I came full circle back to my roots.

These are pics of my actual first good knives. The LST may be 30 years old? The Ez-outs 20+

I don't have it anymore, but my first real pocket knife was a Native 5 like the one below. My first real knife that I used was some no-name hunters knife that I used to kill centipedes in my house. I also had bought a quiet carry the chase before, but didn't put much thought into it. The Native was the first knife I did a ton of research on to buy, I was determined that this was going to be a super knife and basically do everything and be indestructible. Once it arrived, I proceeded to try and baton it through some fire logs, and I found a huge chip in the knife. I called Spyderco and they said they could resharpen it but didn't cover something like that, I was surprised because I thought there was a super good warranty on them that would basically cover anything, but apparently I had passed that line lol. So from that point I felt like I was super uneducated and needed to learn a lot more about knives in general and what works and what doesn't. Thousands of dollars, and a few years later, I've learned a lot. Got a Bark River, a Mora, and a Sebenza!
