What knife to take bicycling the Great Divide?

To the Great Divide? Well, it has to be a Spyderco or a Benchmade. Those are the knives of the Great Divide in bladeforums.

I do like the S1. Although, it's only a little bit bigger than the F1 and I think I prefer high carbon steel over stainless in knives that are a little larger than the F1. It's probably mostly personal preference, but I feel more comfortable with something that has less of a chance of chipping.
I think I'm going to pick up an Izula in the near future. I saw my friend's last night and I liked it a lot. It's small, but not too small to be functional and useful.

mora if you want to keep it cheap and light, scrap yard S5 if you want to keep it less cheap and still light.

Maybe a BUCK 426 as it is the 110 with composite grip, very light and still very rugged with a para cord lanyard. Also the smallest Gerber ax would come in handy for camp-it is also very light and small but will get chopping/hammering jobs done. A medium swiss knife (I like the one with magnifier & phillip's head & scissor) would carry in my pack. I carry essential bike tools in my seat kit, so no special bikers folding tool is necessary for me.

If your pining for the ESEE-5,you might consider the HEST.It's meant for suvival applications and is smaller than the 5,but,still built like a little Tank !
